Greetings:

I am wondering what is the real life benefit of a high torque (between 4X4 V6 & 4X4 V8 4Runner for instance). Will the towing capacity or the acceleration increase with the higher torque?

Advance thanks for your insight thoughts.

The 4.0L V6 has slightly more horsepower but much less torque than the 4.7L V8. The V8 is rated to tow 7000 lbs and the V6 5000 lbs. I would think that the higher torque would also help off road when climbing steep hills.

Rebel is right. On an SUV power is all about torque. A car can have a lot of horsepower, but torque is really how it puts that power down. With all my heart....go for that V8. It won't let you down!

Torque is measured in Newton Meters (or for you yanks, foot pounds I beleive) Meaning is uses a certain amount of force to move a meter/foot.

More torque you have, faster acceleration cause it can move greater mass a meter in less time.

Although, the down side to low end torque means giving up performance at the higher end. Look at the S2000 (162 @ 6500)...horrible off the line, but it flys through gears 2-6.

If you need towing capability or 4 wheel capability go with the torqued V8. If you want better highway mileage and high end performance go with the V6.
