GT3.....Quicker than Turbo !

UK viewers, anyone see Top Gear last night? The new GT3 was quicker round a wet circuit than the Turbo model by nearly 4 seconds and the Turbo ran in the dry! It was also quicker than the EVO 8 (which was also a dry run). Pretty quick really considering the EVO is considered one of the fastest 'real world' cars point to point.

Maybe in a straight line but the fact is, both cars have been run on the same track (turbo when dry - GT3 when wet) driven by the same driver (racing driver with F1, touring car, etc Expeirence) and the GT3 was nearly 4 seconds quicker ! Speaks for it's self.

how can u even bring up the evo 8 n be impressed that it was faster? there is about a $100,000 price difference

Might be a huge difference in price but the Evo 8 is a very quick car at putting lap times in. Being quick is not all about big BHP and running it in a straight line.

Other recent car mag reviews recently ran the Evo 8 up against the GT3, Ferrari 360 Stradale M3 CSL and it was still quicker than any of those cars on a UK test circuit (Millbrook - Wales). Even on UK B-Roads, all the other cars had trouble just keeping with it!

Love the GT3 but the EVO 8 is not to be laughed at !!!

I haven't seen any magazines who did comparison tests among the cars listed. I know evo did a comparison between the Challenge Stradale and GT3 then another among the M3 CSL, STi Spec C, and GT3. The first test conducted with the GT3 and Stradale had no lap times but rather overall driving impressions of both cars as they went up and down the Stelvio pass in Italy. The other test was both overall driving impressions and actual lap data, in which the GT3 was victorious. I don't think Top Gear BBC or CAR has a complete test among the four cars, including the Evolution VIII. I don't question the Evolution's ability either.

no way am i surprised by these results, the GT3 is a true supercar, engineered for performance by Porsche to beat most competition....of course it's gonna beat an Evo, the evo is just a cheap Mitsu sedan with an intercooler ,a supercharger, and a huge ass rear wing (that looks pretty dumb by the way)

The only thing I have to say is that you don'T compare an EVO 8 to a Porsche... It's not in the same category of cars...

evo 8's are quick becouse of their short hearing and power porshes are quick becouse of their power and light weight i dont think an evo 8 can hit 190 mph
an evo 8 is better suted to beaing compared to a wrx sti
comparing a porsche to an evo is lile saying that oil and water freely mix

i find that funny though that the gt3 is faster in the wet than the turbo in the dry it just shows you what n/a power can do

I think it's got more to do with the suspension setup and low weight rather than wether it is N/A or turbocharged. The Turbo is a heavy car with soft suspension. The GT3 was designed as racing car for the road whilst the Turbo is a road car period.

I can't believe they compared the evo with the porsches. What year was the turbo? Because by stats that I have read a 97 turbo s is a lot quicker than a GT3 in a straight run but I don't know about corners. I do know the GT3 is great with the suspension and weight. So i am not suprised that the GT3 beat the turbo. And again the evo is almost a rice rocket and shouldn't be compared to the porsche.

I also saw the Top Gear programme where the GT3 was driven by the "Stig" and produced a time quicker then the 911 Turbo (420bhp). But, since the "new" Stig took over his times have been consistantly quicker. The programme producers should really get the new driver to test out all of the original cars again because the new driver is definately faster.
