Charcoal cannister.. emissions control question.

I have a 96' BMW 3 series with an engine light on. The failure is
related to the evaporator emissions system. I was wondering if
anyone has knowledge of this system? My charcoal cannister has two
lines going into it from the feul tank and one line going out to
somewhere?? I have heard that line goes to the intake mannifold but
I don't know where it goes on the intake. There is a solenoid that
is on the charcoal cannister that I assume controls the flow of
air/vapor from the fuel tank to the intake manifold, but I am not
sure of this. The solenoid seems to be working fine but I don't
know if the are any other valves/solenoids closer to the air intake
solenoid.

Does anyone have a complete working knowledge of how this system
works?

Thanks,
-Mike

There line to the intake goes probably to the intake after the throttle. Turbocharged cars have one line to before the turbocharger, if NA engines have one line to before the throttle I can't say. There should also be a pressure sensor in the system, and a number of mechanical valves.
