Ok, it's rare, but someone help me out - what the heck is this thing??Peloton25 10-23-2003, 07:08 PM http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2567146873&category=29789 I've seen it on Ebay multiple times over the past few years. I have no idea what it is, who Gary Numan is, or why anyone would want to own it. Someone please enlighten me - Thanks!! >8^) ER TcarR 10-23-2003, 07:43 PM Allow me. Gary Numan is a British atrist who was big in the 80s. His records were kinda electronic meets rock. Anyway, his biggest hit was Cars ("here in my car, i feel safest of all...."). This item is a merely a promotional re-release of that single on a novelty shaped vinyl LP to promote a tour. I'm suprised you haven't heard of him cos i thought he manged to crack the Us market. If you've got GTA Vice City go listen to Wave FM cos "Cars" plays on that station. McLaren F1 Guy 10-23-2003, 07:53 PM Oooooohhh, a record in the shape of the clinic car. That would be a collectors item. Numan is considered a one hit wonder, he is one of the first people ever to use a synthesizer and that started a whole craze. Peloton25 10-23-2003, 08:04 PM Ahhh - thank you very much. I'm not into music at all so if he is known in the US, it wouldn't have crossed my radar. I did actually think this was some kind of record, but couldn't be positive. Another great mystery solved here in the McLaren F1 forum. >8^) ER Stratoraptor 10-23-2003, 09:39 PM do you have an interest in bidding on that thing? Peloton25 10-23-2003, 09:47 PM No not at all actually - I just wanted to know what it was. If you look at the auciton closely, you'll notice it's not a standard auction at all. It's a dutch auction with multiple units (15) of the same item available. There is a "Buy it Now" price of 4.00£, so anyone willing to pay that price can get one until they are all gone. Note the additional 5.00£ price for shipping and handling to the US. That should put it in your hands for just over $15 USD. BTW: I didn't even notice the Ebay category until just now - I could have saved us from all of this: Listed in category: Music > CDs, Records and Tapes > Records > 45 RPM > Picture >8^) ER TCC 10-23-2003, 11:15 PM Just to add a bit of trivia - Gary Numan was a bit of a car fan as well. I remember he used to have a Ferrari 512BB back in the '80s when he was rolling in popularity. He's actually still recording and performing, but not at the height he used to. Cheers, Tom hiphophomer 10-23-2003, 11:23 PM if thats a cd how can it fit in a cd player....? Peloton25 10-23-2003, 11:29 PM It's a record actually - I assume it's smaller than a full sized LP, so it will fit on top of a turntable without the edges sticking off the sides. >8^) ER andybee 10-24-2003, 04:06 AM from memory its a single, which allows the "shaped" edges to extend to Album size without causing any playing problems (assuming you have a record player of course!)also theres a Goodyear CD with "driving tracks" which had the same clinic car on the front. Gary Numan is still going strong today and has a massive fan base, certainly not a one hit wonder at all. Think of Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode and some where in the middle you have Mr Numan He's mad for cars and helicopters and has a collection of both McLaren F1 Guy 10-24-2003, 08:46 AM What I meant is that he is a one hit wonder in the USA. He was on VH1's top 100 one hit wonders (the maca rena was #1 if you were wondering) TcarR 10-24-2003, 09:00 AM Alot of his songs are sampled by current artists so you've prpbably heard his music without realising it. Last i heard he had a TVR Cerbera, a helicopter and a Lotus Esprit. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
