Best SleepersTwyzz 10-20-2003, 05:33 PM Old Caravans, Dodge Shadows, Omnis, Old Probes, AE86, Regal T-Type. any others? fatninja19 10-20-2003, 05:46 PM YA!! Minivans!! I've yet to associate AE86's as sleepers because they really aren't all that fast in a straightline... Even with the 4agze motor shoehorned in. Polygon 10-20-2003, 06:45 PM I think that any of the FWD Turbo Dodges and Chryslers were some of the best sleepers, except the Daytona. So hit us with your non-stock winner! Alright; it was a 1970 Dodge Challenger. Not much of a sleeper except he had 340 badges on it. Too bad it was far too loud to be a 340. When the guy took off at the light all I could think was that it wasn't street legal. Talked to him later and it wasn't. He had a twin supercharged 528 Hemi under the hood. The body was custom made and a lot lighter than the original. He had a lot of frame and suspension work done as well. I looked the car over and the guy must have been rich. Not too much of a sleeper but a hell of a lot more than I was expecting. Id have to say a plymoth laser rs. Itd be an ugly ass car but no one would expect a laser to have 600+ hp with 2000lbs or less weight to boot... The Plymouth Laser could be had with Turbo and AWD. Why bother with the swap? Also it didn't look much different from the same year Talons and Eclipse. They are the same exact cars. Also, DSMs are NOT sleepers. Some people even think that the new Eclipse is fast. Cl0ak 10-21-2003, 07:03 PM Just my personal opinion but I think a sleeper should not look at all fast, and should look 100% stock. I saw a old beat up buick on the highway the guy was doing the speed limit until this camry kept trying to cut him off than he floored it and I don't know what he was running under there but he took off like no one's business. tha_new_guy 10-21-2003, 07:55 PM Alright; it was a 1970 Dodge Challenger. VP-Dyno 10-24-2003, 12:09 PM To me any more the best sleeper would be a car with all the body kits and paint jobs done to it .. cuz for me .. when i see car slow lookn car tryn to race and stuff i just get the vibe that he is sleepn .. but when ever you see alot of the show cars tryn to race .. you think he just some dude that spent all his time and money on his body and and maken his car look like a race car but really aint .. you see a ton of hondas / acuras and mitu's with body kits that are just slow as hell .. and see mass cars lookn slow . just pulln on people .. ( just some thin i been noticeing more and more .. that what we used to call sleepers we can racers and what we would call racers are sleepers .) I think a sleeper is a car that you wouldnt think is fast for any reson .. not really a car that is stock and/or a slow stock car LOOKing .. Sleeping isnt aboutbeing stock .. its more about tricking the other racer .. so really a good sleeper would be some basic car you see with the loudest exhauts you could find and a side mount intercooler and very silent blow off .. and make people think your rideing it hard and be slow .. till you really get on it .. sleeping is about hiding the truth.. just what i think ..lol .. LoW_KeY 10-24-2003, 01:31 PM I know back when I had my 2.8 I could pull off a 15.1 in the 1/4 not sure if thats really sleeper status.. but everyone thinks I slapped formula on the side and put rims on my car  so I guess you could say mine is..? the look on their faces afterwards is priceless.. A guy's recent attempt in a 3800 Grand Prix.. he just joined the Grand Prix Forum and I noticed he was from alma, the place I live. Anyways I asked him what color it was cause I thought it might've been the one guy that I shocked. "It's i guess, maple red, is what GM calls it. It's one hell of a sleeper alright, the 340 Challenger was a dog! The E body Chryslers weighed in at around 3600lbs, IIRC, and the 340 was delivered with a bad exhaust system and the ignition severely retardted through it's entire curve. Now a blown stroker hemi, that has just about enough grunt to get a Challenger off the line, especially with a custom body to drop the weight :icon16: Cbass 10-26-2003, 07:02 PM Oh, I forgot to throw in my ultimate sleeper. 1986 Ford Aerostar 2.8, with the V6 badges removed. Well, not so much removed as rusted of :iceslolan New engine will be a 302 Ford, fairly low compression, but with more than enough grunt to get a 3200lb van moving comfortably, probably 14 second 1/4s. :evillol: 2strokebloke 10-27-2003, 08:56 PM A Yugo GV. Because the Yugo's engine and transmission were based off of Fiat's 128, it's easy to swap a 1.5 liter engine from an X19 into the place of the Yugo's little 1.1 liter unit, and that alone is major upgrade for power and speed. The Yugo in my sig has a 2.0 liter engine in it. The orignal engine was 55hp, the Fiat 1.5 is 75hp but easily tuned to much higher outputs. OoNismoO 10-27-2003, 09:21 PM yea i think the ultimate sleeper would have to be that chrysler/dodge minivans that came turbocharged from the factory. i want one, just imagine beating someone really bad in one of those, the look on their face would be priceless. Funkdeal 10-27-2003, 11:42 PM i can't only one person mentioned the maxima. my dad has a 2003 maxima and it kicks ass. it does 0-60 in less than 6 and a half seconds. he has the SE model too, so it handles like a sports car (well not THAT good, but it's still really good for a sedan). if anybody is looking for a fairly cheap, fast sedan, i highly recommend the maxima. my dad got his for about 24,000. Hello everybody, i'm vinnie from the maigty mini from Belgium. We have made a mini cooper with a m3 3liter engine inside for the Belgium endurance championship, and last weekend on francorchamps we won our first race with it, amazing no, ownly the 4the race of the car and already a winner. We apear in the next BMW CAR (britisch magazin) on the cover, and if you want to see pictures , visit my website. So you're saying that you can't have a sleeper from the factory? The Omni GLH came like that from the factory, all the turbo Dodges did. On another note, I don't see you guys can call The Eclpise/Laser/Talon and the 3000GT/Stealth sleepers. Do you even know the defenition? A sleeper is something that you don't expect to be fast. Civic SiR's, B18c Integras and H22a Preludes are very unassuming- especially in thier JDM trims The Peugeot 306 GTi-6 looks like something Granny would be drive- but beware- don't let it catch you off guard The MINI Cooper S, Renault Clio RS (Esp. with a Tuned ECU, Intake and exhaust- honoured by the factory warranty) and the Peugeot 206 RC180 all look like little City cars- but can go to 100 km/h in less than 7 seconds. How about a Holden Commodore SS (a VY one) with Executive bumpers, headlights and badges- and chuck on Hubcaps- or would the V8 rumble give it away?? Nissan Laurels powered by RB25's and A#1 Cefiros in a decent state of tune are also vey sleeper like- especially if you make them look like diesels  The Lancer GSR looks like any other Lancer- but is shockingly fast- basically a detuned Evo........ Twyzz 11-04-2003, 06:49 PM Geez people, get off honda's ass! You see quick CRX's all the time. this is a topic about sleepers, not commonly known cars that can be fast. I'm talking about cars they don't sell body kits for and no one knows there fast. OoNismoO 11-04-2003, 06:56 PM Geez people, get off honda's ass! You see quick CRX's all the time. this is a topic about sleepers, not commonly known cars that can be fast. I'm talking about cars they don't sell body kits for and no one knows there fast. The point was that a CRX isn't fast stock. I'll not argue that with a swap and some work they can be made into a sleeper. skilligan 01-03-2004, 10:19 PM hi all, I was just wondering if anybody knows if you can throw a 2.5Lturbo into a dodge onmi, if any one has expieriance, please let me know.... yeah a NORMAL dodge omni, not a glh.. thanks . MustangRoadRacer 01-04-2004, 09:33 AM you can probably fit a chevy 350 in a dodge omni.I don't see why not. topgear00 01-04-2004, 11:09 AM I remember hearing about a turbocharged Vitz/Yaris that ran like 13 or 14...I personally wouldn't see that one coming. Cbass 01-04-2004, 11:57 AM An early 90s stock Civic hatch back with a 3 foot wing on the back and APC stickers. Why would this be considered a sleeper? People would be too busy laughing to race, and nobody would expect it to be fast ;) Anyone mention a AE86 4A-GZE yet? Or a Thunderbird SC? Or the alltime best sleeper. A late 70s V8 Vega. SpaceManSpiff 01-04-2004, 01:54 PM If you have the money, how about an IS300 with a 2jz-gte in it? And no one's mentioned the fastiva yet... festiva with a b6t in it. Hondas make decent sleepers because while most people know they can go fast, most people don't expect a civic with a body kit and wing to be running low 13s or faster. How about an h22 accord? Turbo shadows? How about a dodge spirit r/t? Bunta 01-04-2004, 02:23 PM Sleepers can mean different things I guess. It might be a fast piece of shit, or a car nobody recognizes as fast. Since everybody I want to race thinks that their car is the fastest thing on the road, I vote my 1972 BMW Bavaria to be the best sleeper from my experience. It weighs 3000lbs, has four wheel disc brakes (that are the best I or the previous owner have felt on a stock car), dual downdraft carbed 3.0 liter that makes about 190hp and more torque. This thing is great on the freeway and no slouch in the cornering department. It's not tricky or anything, really stable, good road manners. Plus it is beige with the stock chrome hubcaps (BBS coming). Since BMW used the same basic motor from '69-'94, I could easily drop in a 3.5 (with triple side drafts, or FI) and get around 250HP with a five speed. Did I mention it's beige? My 2002 is rusty and poop brown (paint soon) but it rocks. Of course, this car wasn't bad either (drove it from Tacoma WA to Shelton) http://www.hctc.com/~pmauto/boss02motor.jpg Yes, that is an S14 M3 motor in a 2002. Cbass 01-04-2004, 05:47 PM That's your 2002? :sunglasse Nice to see another German car nut on this board, can't let people forget who makes the best cars :iceslolan boosted331 01-04-2004, 06:29 PM Go find a picture of lee howies LX, he drove it on the street a lot, looked like a mustang hatchback with a 1.5" cowl, and a 28x10.5 E/T street, not horribly uncommon on a typical 10 or 11 second street mustang, but it went low 8's @ 170+. 01venom_ 01-04-2004, 07:22 PM thats hardly sleeper speed is it? Volvo S70 T5 runs 14.5 i bet the new S60 R does 13 something or less. (it has 300hp) The new s60 r runs a 14.0 in the 1/4 because of its high safety ratings and all that extra weighted shit on the car. The Ford Fairmont has to be the best sleeper ever. It looks like a heavy beast but really weighs somewhere around 2900 I think, correct if wrong, but a very good sleeper. Cbass 01-04-2004, 08:36 PM Yeah, the Fairmont is a classic sleeper. I saw a nice buildup on one using a 392ci stroker, made around 450hp. beast2.0 01-19-2004, 09:30 PM What about a mk1 mk2 gti with a turbo vr6? A little old vedub with over 300 hp. Or the 60-70s beetles with some money thoes will pull the front wheels off the ground and run 10s. Who has seen a 10 sec beetle? Just check the mag hot vws or something like that. There are tons of 10 sec beetles out there. I am not sure if they are street legal though. It still would be fun to smoke a nice new vett in a rusty beetle. I can't believe anyone has talked about these yet. Chavez408 01-19-2004, 11:18 PM maybe a geo metro? 89Turbo944 01-20-2004, 02:57 AM A turbo Geo is pretty quick, also V6 pinto, Ford Coswerth, 190E 16valve AMG tuned, Galant Polygon 01-20-2004, 12:21 PM hi all, I was just wondering if anybody knows if you can throw a 2.5Lturbo into a dodge onmi, if any one has expieriance, please let me know.... yeah a NORMAL dodge omni, not a glh.. thanks. Of course you can. You fit can a 2.2L TBI, 2.5L TBI, 2.2L T1, 2.5L T1, 2.2L TII, 2.2L TIV, or a 2.2L TIII into ANY Omni. The mounts are all the same. If you're going to do a swap make sure you get an A-520, A-555, or A-568 transmission to bolt onto the engine along with ALL the underhood wires and computer. If you need any help just ask. you can probably fit a chevy 350 in a dodge omni.I don't see why not. That would just be a bad idea. 1969Stang 01-20-2004, 04:22 PM buick century with the l67 3.8 liter supercharged engine swap. build the motor 500 hp in a car that could be less then 2700 pounds. 1989 weights under 3000...so there its done...sleeper 4 door...not as good as the mini van though 1969Stang 01-20-2004, 04:29 PM or a pinto with the thunderbird turbo coupe engine.
