Motor identity helpkicker1_solo 10-17-2003, 01:32 AM Ok, so my cousin bought a wrecked civic, I'm pretty sure that it's a 94 DX. The person that he got it from said that it has a different motor in it, but couldn't say for sure which. The block says D15 and that's it. Here's a picture of his motor http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid78/p0f27fc86ee40a758ddb3ff5025f890e0/fb293293.jpg this blue valve cover is the one that his car originally came with, but he traded with his sister in law http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid65/p0a99f50a81f6cee5adeb8cbf631be6b1/fbefe840.jpg So can you guys tell me anything about this? Is this the stock motor that the car came with? He thinks that he has a VTEC head but just doesn't have all the parts for it. If he does have VTEC, what would we be looking for? Is there numbers on the head that we could read? And any info about this motor would be great. He talked to the local honda dealer and they told him that he had a speed limiter of 113 mph, but I've had him driving right beside me at 120+. So any help with all this would be greatly appreciated, thanx. :) B16EJ1 10-17-2003, 01:40 AM It looks like a D15. If it was a B it would be a dual cam. As far as VTEC, I'm almost positive it does not have it. There should be a solenoid behind the valve cover on the distributor side and I can't see one. Basically, no solenoid, no VTEC. Looks like a 92-95 non VTEC motor. Get the exact engine code on the block and to check the year of production you need to check the three round seals just above the header. They have 2 numbers on each and the first seal is the yeear of production. kicker1_solo 10-17-2003, 01:43 AM It looks like a D15.
