Theoretically speaking: No hood, no intake pipe

Just from a theoretical standpoint, how would it affect the dynamics of a engine (like a Civic EX D16Y8) if there was no intake pipe at all to restrict anything, no hood to gather heat, and no need for a filter (because in this hypothetical world, there is no debris in the air).

Would this be the ideal situation?

From the exhaust standpoint, little Civic engines need some backpressure to help evacuate the exhaust. Thus removing the header, downpipe, cat, and muffler (theoretically) would be really bad on the low end and midrange torque, but great for the upper end. Is there anything similar on the intake?

I would rather have intake piping, and have it facing forward so the air would go straight into the piping instead of the intake manifold trying to suck it in from the side.

In theory without the hood it would work if the car was on a dyno, but you would have to overcome aerodynamic inefficiency if you took the car on the road. Ever hear of the car getting better gas mileage with the A/C on instead of having the windows rolled down? Same thing. The wind resistance is greater than if you ran the A/C which sucks away power.

And intakes use the tubing to smooth out airflow. Without the intake tubing there is no velocity it's just random airflow coming from all directions which takes away hp and makes atomization of the fuel worse.

Whoa did I just say all that :)
