Automotive Books

Ok, I've got some experience with suspension work and brakes as well as a few books on the subject but I feel the need to move on. So far the engine bay and transmission tunnel are relatively unexplored worlds to me in a practical manner(I have a working knowledge of the IC and transmissions as well as a background in engineering, just not mechanical but no real hands-on experience).

So I'm looking for a good technical book that covers all the basics and also preferrably some more advanced topics would be a bonus.(I don't need to learn all the nitty gritty about applied fluid dynamics but some mention of it would be nice). But the main thing is learning for practical hands on repair and upgrade work.

So far I've found two books I'm considering:

1. Automotive Engines by William H. Crouse, Donald L. Anglin
http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/002801099X/ref=br_lf_b_9/702-6962781-3125634

2. Automotive Engine Rebuilding by James G. Hughes
http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/0133683745/ref=br_lf_b_2/702-6962781-3125634

I like the chapter summary for Crouse and Anglin's book but it was published in 1994 so it's probably pretty dated by now. Hughes looks good but there isn't much description there. Anyone have any experience with these books? or maybe a suggestion of another?

Come on, help a guy out
