Jolting when moving to 1st Gear and stoppinghirschej 10-13-2003, 05:34 PM I have a Toyota 4Runner V6 SRD 2000 automatic with 4WD and Rear Differential Lock. It currently has approximately 67K miles on it. It had its expensive 60K mile service and within a week I started experiencing the problems described below. Normally, when you put your car in drive, you take your foot of the brake and you should ease forward. My car does not do this a good percentage of the time....instead I have to put my foot on the accelerator, it revs up and then jolts me forward. The severity of the jolt and how much it revs up varies from time to time. Sometimes it is consistent but then there are times where it does not happen for days. I never get any jolt when changing to any other gear and it usually happens more if I have someone in the passenger seat. On rare occassions and only when I have passengers when I come to a stop sign and then go back to first gear the same scenario insues. This went on for about a month and now on rare occassions when I am in first gear and slowly come to a stop when I am almost at a complete stop the car acts as if I have suddenly thrown on the brakes and you can even hear the tires squeel. The ABS light does not come on in this situation but it feels like it may be the ABS kicking in. I have brought it in to a repair shop and had two transmission guys look at it. The first one drove it and hooked his computers up to it and said it is definitely the transmission (said it would cost $4500 to repair). The next guy drove it one evening and the entire next day....it never did a thing and he says there are no problems with the car. Any idea what could be wrong? Should I go to the dealership and have them check it out? Should I spend the huge amount of money to get it repaired even though I am not confident that will resolve the problem? Should I go and get an extended warranty since it does not happen all the time and then use the warranty when it is really needed? Should I trade-in the car for another car while I can get a good price for it? Any input is appreciated. This is frustrating! Harry2000 10-18-2003, 10:35 PM Try greasing the slip joints in your driveline. May have to do it a couple of times.
