86 300ZX fuel delivery problem

I know this has probably been posted before, but here goes...

We've got an 86 300zx here and we know that it has some electrical problems from a head on collision with a previous owner. The car has been great, it runs strong and hasn't really given us any problems until now. We're at about 98k miles right now and lately when we start the car it won't run longer than a couple of seconds. When the key is in the 'on' position the fuel pump is heard and the engine will then crank, turn over and run but only for a moment. If the gas pedal is depressed during those couple seconds the engine will only cut out sooner. Overall, the car seems to be cutting itself off. It feels like a stall but it isn't. It really looks as if something is telling the fuel pump to shut off and thus stalling the engine. That's all we could come up with. What could be causing this to happen?

Sorry so long...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.....
