Is there anyway to just disconnect the anti-lock brake system. Mine is coming on by its self. It practically put me through the windshield the first time. I looked into having it fixed but my regular mechanic says that it is too expensive.

I was lookin through old posts and came across this one. My 92 is doin the same thing! What did you ever do about the problem? i know it was a LONG time ago!

This happened to me last December in my '00. The problem usually lies in dirty exciter rings or a failed wheel speed sensor.

To clean the exciter rings, remove the wheels, remove the brakes rotors, and you will have easy access to the rings. Some break cleaner and some elbow grease should get all of the junk off of them. If this does not fix the problem, you will need to look for which sensor is giving bad (or no) data.

In the mean time, the quick fix to disable the ABS system is to disconnect one of the wheel speed sensors. I removed the bottom of my back seat and disconnected one of the two wheel speed sensor harnesses (one for each side obviously). This will force the ABS system to disable at start up. Note your ABS and Traction Control (if equipped) will be completely disabled while disconnected. Use extra caution in rainy/snowy conditions!
