Cost less is true but I don't think there is really any significant power difference. Maybe like a couple hp in favor of the jdm motor if any.

JDM engine features
a) higher compression ratio
b) slightly more aggressive cams
c) different fuel mapping
d) different valvetrain
e) tranny ratios are different
---
Bottom line stock usdm H22a will never outrun stock JDM H22a (if both in similar condition)

Let me know as i have a lot of JDM H22a engines and complete swaps.
Some have only 15-20k.

I keep seeing people say that the JDM engines have different tranny ratios. How different? Does a USDM tranny not fit on a JDM engine?

Have a 95 Accord EX Manual with a rod coming apart and a tranny with slipping clutch (180,000 miles of hard driving -- got car to 146 mph:)) So, I need an engine... I need tranny work.

Been quoted $1800ish for JDM F22 installed with clutch work. Seems like it might be a little high, and may not be direction to be using a tranny with 180K on it. Seems like I can get 55 more HP for $1500 more, with the H22.

Please help.

USDM TRANNY / JDM Tranny

FD 4.27:1 / 4.266
1 3.31 / 3.307
2 1.95 / 1.950
3 1.36 / 1.360
4 1.07 / 1.034
5 0.87 / 0.787
RV 3.00 / 3.000

There are the gear ratio differences. The trannies bolt right up

because of a claimed 10 hp? its completely a drivers race they are so close in power. usdm tranny looks to me like its geared for better acceleration btw of course they are basically the same til 4th. and since when is the valve train different? anyways its not like Im arguing to say usdm is better cause its not, but I would just go with what you can find for cheaper/ better condition since they are basically the same(keep in mind perfect low mileage 30k JDM engines usually don't exist)

hey there....i am curious about the gear ratios of the prelude....by seeing the ratios that you have posted, does it means that the jdm prelude has a faster acceleration but loses out at the high end? also, is there a relation between torque and speed in relation to the gear ratios?
thanks...

according to those numbers, that would mean the jdm would have a higher top speed, and theoretically a slower acceleration in 5th. but that really doesn't matter too much. what it means for what it will be used for is better gas mileage on the highway.
