Brake Pedal Pushes Back At You!

The brake pedal jumps back at you when applying the brake on my 96 Safari. The "jump" is noticeable and is sometimes scary. The brakes appear to be working OK otherwise. The Midas guy who just did the brakes says it might be the ABS system and suggested a trip to the dealer. Anyone heard of or experienced this?

Thanks!

That appears to be the normal operation of the ABS system.
The problem is that the ABS system may be malfunctioning causing the sensation you are feeling.
Has the ABS warning light come on?
Most likely a wheel speed sensor is dropping out at low speeds causing the ABS module to think that that wheel is in a skid and turns on the ABS.

Thanks Merlin. The ABS light does not come on. And the pedal will pulsate back up against your foot even with the van sitting in the driveway- basically anytime you push the pedal down.

I have a 1990 Safari and I get this a little bit too. I have the hydro boost brake system not vacuum. This may be your situation also.
