The instrument panel brake light lights up randomly in my car.....does anyone know why or what I can do to fix it. I'm pretty sure its not short circuiting so there must be some mechanical reason for it.

Is your brake fluid up to the proper maximum level? I'm not absolutely sure but I think there may be a sensor in the brake fluid resevoir that when the fluid gets down to an unsafe level, it illuminates the brake warning light on your instrument panel. Just a thought..........hope this helps.

I am starting to experience the same problem. Just started when the cold weather hit. I have a 1999 camry and was wondering if it could be the brake pads.

I had same problem in my 94. Brake light cam on at diff times, when starting car, while driving. Ended up being the brakes needed replaced. If everything that you can check yourself is ok, I'd get the brakes checked - less problem now than if it continues.
