BMW CPO vs private dealer

Has anyone had experience with BMW's CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) program? They seem to have a pretty sweet warranty extension, but I wonder what premium they tack on the price of the car for it. Is it worth it?

I've found a beautiful 2000 528i at a non-BMW luxury car dealer. I was sort of waiting for the right car to come along at the local BMW dealer, but now I'm wondering if it'll be worth the wait just to get their CPO program warranty.

The only thing the BMW sales guy could tell me about the CPO warranty was that it extended to original warranty to 5 years or 100k miles and covered "most things". That worries me a bit in itself.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I know several people that have been screwed over on warranties that didn't cover what they thought it would. One of my customers had his brakes go out and took it back to the dealer for repairs, he was hit up for 250 smackers to cover the bill. Brake pads are "normal wear" items and are not covered under warranty, neither was the thin brake rotors. This other dude blew an alternator, since it wasn't power-train related, he got the "chingolet" also.
If you want a car w/a warranty, compare the difference of w/warranty coverage and w/o. Get a copy of the policy and study it sentence by sentence and figure out exactly what it doesn't cover. I saw on the news that some policy company went belly-up and left all the clients w/o any coverage, and no refunds.
I get the fliers in the mail for policy coverage on my vehicle. They go in file #13.
Hope this helps,

Thanks, TEX. I figure I'll wait until the spring and grab a 2002 model instead. Maybe I can get one with a good chunk of the original warranty left.
