Hi guys,

I have a friend with a 98 3/4t 360 auto 4x4. He is not happy with his gas mileage and was thinking of opening up his exhaust system for better flow. He would like to remove the cat convertor but we are not sure what can be put in its place because there are two o2 sensors involved.

Can we just replace it with a straight pipe with 2 bungs for the o2 sensors or will this screw up the computer too much and present new problems?

easiest way is to remove mufler and run a bar through the cat to remove the insides. however keep in mind this is illegal in most states and on a 96 or newer it will fail inspection because your check engine light will come on. if the computer sees the same reading from the sensor behind the cat as the one in front of the cat, it sets a code saying that converter efficiancy is low. if the truck is quieter than it used to be the cat may be bad and need replacement.
