I haven't seen or heard anything relating to either of these two GTRs since the '96 AJGTC they competed in, finishing 1-2 for the season.

It's possible that the other teams took sledgehammers to the two cars in retaliation for their overall dominance throughout the season, rendering them unable to participate the following year. ;)

Chassis 014R (Race No 61)was heavily damaged during the Sugo race on 6th October 1996.

It was replaced for the final race by chassis 004R (Ex Gulf GTC Chassis). I don't know if 014R was ever repaired.

Well I found the #60 Lark GTR.

As of 3/16/2002 it was still in Japan and was displayed at some kind of car show. Unfortunately, there is only one photo and I certainly can't read the text, but I figured I would share it anyway. Maybe someone here would care to translate? ;)

Surprisingly, it looks to still be wearing the complete livery - and also looks to be in excellent condition based on what can be seen in the picture.

is that the same car that symbolic had. I had seen symbolic's car in monterey this year. It had the same colors as that one but w/o all of the japanese writing on it.

No this is not the same car that Symbolic has been selling. These two GTRs are actually short tailed '96-spec GTRs, whereas the Symbolic car is a long tailed '97-spec GTR - the first one actually, #19R.

The car in the photo is #13R which wore race number '60' through the 1996 AJGTC series being driven by Ralf Schumacher and Naoki Hattori. They completed the season in second place overall. The other short tailed LARK-liveried GTR was number 14R and it wore the race number '61' through that series being driven by John Neilsen and David Brabham. They finished the season in first place. Up until now both these GTRs had basically vanished following that '96 race season, but now this website confirms for the most part that at least one of them is still in Japan. That's kind of what I suspected, but it's nice to have a shred of proof to back up suspicions. I'm sure if I could read the text on that page I might be able to find more photos from this event. It surprises me that this person only chose to take one - one is always better than none though.

No problem - that's why I'm here. :)

The two things I care most about in regards to the McLaren F1 are documenting the cars here in the US and preserving the accurate history of the GTRs. Now that they aren't racing, it's very difficult to find any specific info on the GTRs. The only time you really see anything on a GTR is when it shows up for sale somewhere.

I took a chance and sent an email to the owner of that webpage. Most Japanese people can read and speak english, so I'm hopeful I will see a reply with more info and possibly more photos. I haven't had much luck getting a response from any Japanese people before but that doesn't keep me from trying.

Maybe I need to learn to type my emails in 'Engrish'. ;) :lol2: :D

i've also found 2 pics , the car with the 60 is 13 R , the other one 14 R............
for me this 2 cars are the most beautiful gtr's :lol2: ,because the others had been painted not in a very special way ( o.k. except 05R in his LM '95 livery ). :p

My favourite livery, even though it goes against most of my principles.

I like my liveries to follow the car shape, but the sponsor wanted something different, so in conjunction with another designer, we came up with this. Colours choosen by Philp Morris, but it did look stunning.

Actually steered 13R onto a trailer b4 (being pushed :) ) for the journey from McLaren to Japan.

I have a Japaense BMW brouchure at home so, I'll try and dig it out and post some new pics on here.

Well - persistence pays off my friends. :dogpile:

It's rare that I see a reply to any of the emails I send inquiring for McLaren F1 info, and believe me, I send a bunch. Usually it doesn't even matter where I send them, but this is my first ever reply from a Japanese email address, and now you can all benefit from my extra effort.

Here's the text of the reply I received:

My name is Yoshiyuki Shibata, live in Saitama Japan.

Thank you for your E-mail. I understand your question, But sorry I can explain my answer by English just a little.

I send a picture to you. It's huge size, sorry! You can use free.

I like McLaren F1 too!(same as you) If you have BPR series picture, Please send me some pictures, esepecially GULF & Harrods!

The file is 264K so it will take a minute to DL on a slow connection. Image size is 2MP or 1200x1600 pixels.

Time for me to send this guy some 'thank you' photos.
