depends on if you like the auxiliary lights or not. (The little lights next to the headlights). If you do, go for a 95 as your first choice, 94 as a second choice. If you don't like them, then go for a 96 or 97. 95 Is usually the most "sought after" year for the aux light fans, because that's when honda added a remote trunk release and a low fuel light. Just little creature comforts, it's annoying having to turn your car off to open the trunk (reason I keep two keys in my car). 93 models don't have the passenger airbag, so their dash is a lot smoother on that side, and if you're gonna go big customizing and show stuff, that's what you want. Personally, it's against my principles to buy a car in the first year of production, since none of the glitches have been worked out. But I've never heard anything bad about 93 models. Be sure that after you get whichever one you get you take it to the honda dealership and have them see if you qualify for any recalls. Certain models are eligible for new weather seals, and some others had an a/c condenser recall. And ALWAYS check carfax first.

Personally, I have a 94 DOHC VTEC model and I love it to bits. The interior is becoming a mix of model years, because the 96/97 sols had more black in the interior instead of grey, so I've been looking for 96/97 interior parts so I can have a completely black and white (for now) interior. Good luck and happy hunting!

they are pretty much all the same to me. Try to look for a DOHC VTEC, but if not, the Si model is pretty nice too. I like the 93's best IMO.

they're all the same to you cause you have a teg. :p I could look on my harddrive and find pics of every one of the model years and point out the differences, but I'm lazy. As far as engines go...

1993
S - D15 SOHC non-VTEC - 102 hp
Si - D16 SOHC VTEC - ~130 hp

1994
S - D15 SOHC non-VTEC - 102 hp
Si - D16 SOHC VTEC - ~130 hp
VTEC - B16 DOHC VTEC - 170 hp
-- added DOHC VTEC model

1995
see 1994 (told you I'm lazy)
-- added remote trunk release and low fuel light

1996
S - D16 SOHC non-VTEC - 115 hp
Si - D16 SOHC VTEC - ~130
VTEC - B16 DOHC VTEC - 170 hp
-- put D16 in S model, removed auxiliary lights, put in b16a3 instead of b16a2 (8000 rpm redline vs 8200 redline in b16a2), also redesigned interior with more black pieces, and added a new seat fabric, also made vogue silver metallic a color available on S models.

1997
see 1996
-- last year of USDM del Sol production. In 1998, two special editions were released in Europe.. the Daytona and Motegi editions.

The S model beefed up a little in 96, moving to a 1.6 liter engine instead of the puny 1.5. Depending on how particular you are, these differences matter more or less. Both of the del Sols I've owned have been 94 models. One was an S model, the other (current) is a VTEC model. They have advantages and disadvantages. The s model got much better gas mileage (like 48 mpg on the highway), but didn't have the power of the VTEC model. The s model didn't have power steering, either, which I like better taking fast curves, but like less in tight spots.

'95+ are the best years, IMO.

...Emily...you forgot power locks and upgraded weather seals in '95.
A whole bunch of things changed in '95, for the better.

...Basically I think it boils down to, if you want aux lights, go w/ '95. If you don't, either year ('96-7.)

so Ive been looking around and was wondering what would be better the 95 b16 vtech or the 94b16 vtech...im not exactly flowing with cash right now so yea....any ideas

ps...what kind of spoiler is on the 93-97 kit on wingswest??

Plastic_Fork

Whichever your preference is or what you can afford. The trunk release, power locks, and low fuel light aren't on the '94. Those were introduced starting in '95. Also, the '95 and up models have the redesigned roof seals so they don't leak. Honda has a kit that can fix that for you for lots of money if you get the '94. :p

And the Wingswest kit doesn't come with a wing. You gotta buy that seperately. Just pick one you like. :)

the 94-95 del sol vtec came with the b16a3, honda screwed up the revision number. this was the infamous obd 1 b16.

96+ broght on the obd2 standard, adding a few more sensors and another o2 sensor. out came teh b16a2. identical to what is found int he 99-00 civic si.

:D Sowwwwwy. But it's all good. a3, a2, whateva... as long as I can open my hood and see DOHC VTEC I'm happy. Of course I'd be happier if it had that pretty red valve cover for a type R, but I'm gettin something just as good, if not better. :evillol:

and also what has the most hp boost capabilities?????si or vtech or whatever else there is out there for sols

94SolGrl
12-22-2003, 09:59 AM
well I've seen SOHC engines put down 600hp at the wheels.. that enough for ya? ;) Of course the particular sol I'm talking about is also running on nitromethane instead of gas... might have something to do with it :D If you have the cash, it's pretty easy to get any sol to 250+ hp. a b16 has about 160hp stock. Put on an I/H/E system and get tuned and you're probably hitting around 190 or so. And that's just with basic stuff. The b16 is the most power stock. But like I said, if you want to experiment around, I would get the D15 blocks or a non-VTEC D16 block. Cheaper is better when you're eating engines for lunch.

94SolGrl -
Finally replacing your transmission, eh? Gotta take me for a ride in your car sometime. Been curious about how someone else's VTEC Del Sol compares to mine as far as engine/transmission noises, ride, etc. Just curious - my mind's like that. :p
This spring, you gotta race me at the drag strip. :bigthumb:
Also, you sure you're gonna try to make your car all-wheel drive? Where's the drive shaft and rear differential gonna go?

Vicious -
Here's the wing I think you were looking for:
Three-piece mid-wing. (http://www.wingswest.com/products_detail.asp?page=1&id=1243)
As for turbo, VTEC is okay, but you'll need to lower the compression ratio of the motor if you don't want to risk destroying it. Otherwise, a D-block would probably be a good turbo platform. A few people on Team Del Sol have turbo'd their D-blocks.

And just for the record so nobody else yells at you, it's spelled "VTEC", not "VTECH". That's a pet-peeve of a lot of people on Automotive Forums.

94SolGrl
12-23-2003, 03:32 PM
VTECH IS A DAMN PHONE! :evillol:

My sol's faster than yours, Jonathan.. the dents increase air drag. ;) Mine has no dents, thus air flows easier, thus I am faster. buahahaha. And don't talk to me about transmission noises... here's how it goes from neutral...

"*click* (first) vrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrroooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom GRIND CRACK CRSHHHHH vroooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom GRINDKRSHCHHHHHH vroooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom *click* (fourth) vrooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom *click* (fifth) vrooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom BZZZZZ (forgot I didn't have six speeds and tried for reverse.. oops..)"

And about AWD... Mike seems pretty confident he can make it work.. I'm gonna have my car up in the air in the next few days so we can start measuring and plotting.. and also to see just how much damage that deer did yesterday :(

Plastic_Fork
12-24-2003, 12:31 AM
Wow, you definately need a new transmission. Glad you're gonna get it fixed soon. Can't wait to see how the AWD turns out. Keeps us posted at the Team Sol forum.

As for your car being faster, I dunno know about that. :p Loud exhaust doesn't equal fast. *poke* *poke* Honestly though, you'd probably take me. You've got more track experience, got a light weight hood (which may be nulled by my lighter wheels), and you've opened your exhaust up, which I haven't done yet. Plus anything else you've done that I don't know about. Then again, mine doesn't have deer parts sticking out of it. :evillol: j/k

Hope there was little to no damage from the deer. You've really got some luck with that car, y'know?

Isle Green was only available on the '95 VTEC's. As far as I know, Honda did not use this color for any other car that they've produced. And yeah, you make the second person I know of on the boards here with an Isle Green like mine.

Note: All years and models came in Milano Red and Granada Black Pearl. The following is for the USDM.

I drove two states away to get mine. I doubt anyone's driving out of the country to get this one though.

As far as Cypress Green goes, it's lighter and a bit more blue, but still pretty close. Amanda in Team Sol GA has a Cypress Green VTEC and we've compared side by side. Hers has a bit more of a blue hint to it, but they're still pretty close in color.

that's about what my car looks like now...except she's kinda...in pieces. at the moment, the rear bumper has been much sanded down, so it's a combo of grays and blacks, and white dust, plus it has some red bondo on it...the stabilizer bar going across the wing has been removed, and this bright neon green (like samba) tape covering holes in the wing, and a strip down by the bumper making sure I don't sand green paint off. LOL! but hey, that's what progress looks like, she's gotta get worse b4 she gets better.

It's under the "info" link on the left and then under paint codes.

If we ever get a moderator back on this Del Sol forum, I'll be able to post up a bunch of info that can be sticky'd at the top for people to read to cut down on the same questions that get asked all the time. I wanted to add the paint codes as well, but at least you're covered. :)

I'll tell you what though. Before you ask on this board, your answer is probably just a search away at Automotive Tech where all the Team Del Sol peeps hang out.

And then I won't even get into the other Honda boards like HT, Import Lounge, and Import Atlanta which is local for me.

But at least we've got a mod now. I'm already working with her on getting a newbie FAQ set up so people can stop asking the same five questions all the time.

LOL! Go into Honda Let's get technical, where I asked the same engine question as I did here. There are a lot of small minded people out there. :) This is the best group I've found so far.

That's the problem with most places these days. Most people (with exceptions, of course) are close-minded, and a good many more are just tired of answering the same questions that get asked all the time. That's one reason that there will be a FAQ put on this board shortly so the general questions about Del Sol's will be answered without having to post.

Besides, the Del Soll crowd is a lot smaller than many others, so a lot of us tend to be a bit more open-minded and objective when it comes to opinions or assisting others although again, there are exceptions.

yup she's right :) I actually bought mine off another Soler which bought his from a shop that had it lying around...it had apparently been thru some shit lol and it still hadn't even been painted...so when I bought it, it was about half-price from a brand new one, and my friend and I are making it beautiful :D

But yes it is a Kaminari wing.

IMO I don't like aluminum, unless it's a small one on a silver Sol, and then only sometimes...Usually they're too big for such a small car, and I don't like the lack of color scheme it usually gives. And then on a Sol, I don't think it goes well w/ the lines of the car, there's so many straight edges on it for a curvy car. That's why I like the Kaminari, it's plenty curvy.

Just my opinion as always, not flaming.

Here's the pics I usually don't let anyone see...the ghetto-ass of my car:

you have no idea how many times people have told me that.

first thing's first.

finishing THAT ^ is first.

I may fix the tail then, I dunno...that depends upon if Emily will ever get me my 50/50s that she owes me *cough*

But the 70/30s were free, I'm not complaining about how they look. When I finish painting the bumper and wing, I have a window to fix, power locks to fix, a couple of indiglo emblems to remove and replace w/ the stock ones...new shocks to hold up the trunk lid, since I put a big-ass heavy wing on it, the trunk lid just won't stay up!! after this, I may consider fixing the tails so I can sell them.

Hey MLE do you know what shocks will work for that? My trunk won't pop so I'm looking for a set. I'd like to go for a carbon fiber trunk lid if GTP ever gets their C-wings one in.
Cheers!

Jeebus Em... I should hand deliver those tails so I can pull that dent for you while I'm there!

LOL!! Only if you want to ;)

Darc, I don't (I'm trying to figure that out), but I wouldn't recommend changing your shocks if you're going to go CF, unless it's to something LESS powerful. Stock shocks + CF trunk lid = a problem of the trunk lid bumping up in the middle from the force of the shocks pushing against the trunk lid. CF is not as strong as the metal of a stock trunk lid.

Wow, that's got to be the largest tail pipe I've ever seen on a Del Sol. :p
All joking aside though, your car's gonna look great when you get through with it. I bet it'd look awesome with a set of smoked tails like Emily's.

This is a great tip! It will be an either or deal for me. Whatever I can find first. I'll want to put a small spoiler on the CF trunk, something OEM size. I'll have to see how much weight the struts will take first. The 'Sol doesn't look right without something on the back IMHO.

Alright who hit you in the rear?

ha I remember you Hater...sup?

heh...tailpipe will go when my car will no longer be a joke on wheels (when stuff gets fixed, and shit gets painted!)
...thnx tho, Fork. :D I certainly hope so.

Darc I agree w/ you, that it doesn't look right...but most wings I see don't look right back there either ~sigh~

some stupid kid in a new Volvo, skipping skool, wasn't paying attention rearended me months ago...I was making a left turn, stopped (as I had been for a while), waiting on traffic...and he plowed right into me. He realized it just soon enough to swerve, into fricken oncoming traffic, hence the hit is just on that side instead of taking up the whole back-end...at any rate, haven't had the time to fix. also was waiting for the "perfect deal" ;)

Damn right I'm wonderful..

It wasn't even that AT was down, this was just another forum that I registered for that I forgot existed.

:D

No need to explain yourself Emily, cars are like people.. They're all ugly until you do something with them. Then they either get uglier, or they get prettier, or they get ugly then pretty.

Either way it's bad..

Anyhow, allo to you all. :)

It stays up fine, it just won't pop. A common problem I hear. I'm sure my "Mini Scorpion" spoiler doesn't help. L8R dude!

Yep, mine doesn't pop either and I've got an OEM wing. Seems to be a normal thing I guess.

What the heck are you talking about?
Can you be a bit more specific or get some pictures? I don't think I quite understand what exactly you're referring to.
