I'm looking at buying a sol, i dont know whether to spend the extra money for an SI, im thinking of buying a reg. and engine swapping, what works well, and what is good to turbo? I've heard that Vtecs dont hold up well w. turbos, let me know what you guys think.

Just buy a Del Sol S model and swap in a B16 or a B18. Whoever told you VTEC and turbo isnt a good combo is a moron. Honda motors are built really well and can handle the boost. I know people running 12lbs of boost on B18C1's and have never had a problem since they put the turbo kit on.

aren't b18c1's hard to find and pretty expensive?
plus they produce 170hp @ 7600 and 128 ft/lbs @6200
.....
the B16B produces 185hp @ 8200 and 118ft/lbs @7500
this is all according to the current application, and would change in a del sol slightly, but tell me what you think, and whate about other engines, like a K20A haha no i dont really have $7000, but any other ideas lemme know

correction the b16b is more expensive @ around $6500 online price, i might be able to find it lower, but the b18c1's are around $3000 much better : )

B18C1's are Integra GS-R motors and are fairly common. The B16B is the Civic Type-R engine. I would imagine that would be a bit harder to find and definately more expensive. B16A's are the Del Sol VTEC engines.

You can always get a B18B (Integra LS) and put a turbo on it. Those are very good platforms for turbo applications and have a lot more torque.

i kinda like the idea of a boosted LS in there too...

i like the setup of the b18c1, it has a higher redline, and appears to be just a little more expensive, than the b18b. The b18c1 is Vtec and the b18b isn't, so im thinking that forced induction on the b18b would make a bigger HP increase than the b18c1 that is already being fed more air. You said that the b18b was a great platform to turbo, is this the reason? an what's the redline on the b18b?

how well do B16's hand a turbo boost? whats a good amount of boost i should put on one?

The B18B's have a lower compression ratio, so they are easier to turbo without as much worry. Need to be careful not to use too much boost on a VTEC motor because they have a higher compression - don't want to blow the motor up. Same goes for the B16A - higher compression VTEC motor. Just be careful.

Also, although the B18B is not VTEC, I believe it has more torque than the B18C1. If you want, you can do a B18B block / B18C1 (or B16A) head hybrid. You'll have all the torque of the B18B, but the VTEC of the B16A/B18C1 motor. This is known as a LS/VTEC motor.

Here are some engine specs:

Looks like the B18B redline is 6800 rpm.

As for the turbo's themselves, I've not done one personally so the application is a bit out of my experience. Some others will probably have a good idea of what safe boost levels are for VTEC and non-VTEC motors.

i have personally seen more people boost B16s & B18C's than any other motor. The B18B might have a good CR and good for boost, but the VTEC motors arent all that bad either. I dunno, just my :2cents:
