I have a 96 Camry With a 4 cyd. It has 54,000 miles on it.My problem is the temp gauge goes up and down.It used to stay just under halfway.Now after it is warmed up it stays about a quarter way sometimes less.Then sometimes it will all of a sudden jump to halfway sometimes it will stay there sometimes it just drop back down to quarter way.I dont think its the thermostat because it goes up and down to quickly.Maybe loose connection or temp sensor. Assuming your radiator and resevoir tank are full, I think that you probably answered your own question. It definitely sounds like either the thermostat or a sensor. If I were you, I'd take it in for service ASAP before problems arise.
