I read - in Autoweek I believe - that the first SLR was actually going to go to Leno. Whether they were giving him the car for his participation in the Maybach unveiling, or just promising him delivery of the first one I can't remember. That ad certainly doesn't prove that they have the car. The VIN # ...00001 seems rather skeptical as well.

EDIT: Quote from Leno - "I'm also really excited about the new SLR Mercedes-Benz. Coincidentally, I've got the first one that's going to be coming into the country, so I'm really looking forward to that - it's pretty cool. Zero to 60 is, what, 4 seconds? But it's not only about the horsepower, even though it has over 600 horsepower."

...and another:

"Barely a week goes by without Leno adding to his collection of cars and bikes. “Let me see, I’ve just built a dragster with a Patton tank engine and, oh yeah, I’m going to be the first guy in America to take delivery of the new Mercedes SLR.” He beams once more."

I'd say those sources are a bit more reliable than what someone puts in an Ebay ad.

I posted this same info in your thread in the F1 forum, but figured it belonged here too.

This is where the first production Slr made went. WWW.RALLYE.COM (http://www.RALLYE.COM).
The dealership bought it for 2.1 million. They are 1 of the most prestigious dealerships on the eastcoast. Minimagic should be posting my pics of it for me very soon theres about 35. I can't cause my photoshop is messed up the pics will probly be under mclaren though.
