Honda Civic - What Should I Do?Dead_Nerd 09-18-2003, 11:14 PM Hey guys, I got a maximum budget of 40k. What should I do with it? I want to get a car that is pretty cheap stock (ie. like a civic, or whatever else you want that can be customized to a great extent), then I want to upgrade everything in sight. First thing I want is power, speed. This is my main concern, and with whats left, I'll make it look at all nice and shiny (suggestions?) Also, what should I do for suspension and all that? I'm a bit of a noob, so I'll be researching alot before I make my purchase, but hopefully you guys can shed some light on the issue! 2camvtec 09-18-2003, 11:38 PM 40k.....shit man get wrx for about 18-20k and just go nuts on the engine and suspenion Ace$nyper 09-18-2003, 11:59 PM hell get a EVO STI or Used M3 you'll still have 10k on a sick car to start. 90CRXZCSi 09-19-2003, 12:41 AM get an STi. Its the best bang for your buck, and its QUICK stock. Dead_Nerd 09-19-2003, 07:37 AM So if I were to get an Sti, what would you get engine and suspension wise? How would you customize the looks? Remember, If i got that Id only have 10k left. 90CRXZCSi 09-19-2003, 08:45 AM i dont know how much stuff is out for that yet but it's running low 13's stock already. Maybe get cold air, 3" downpipe, 3" full catback, boost control, etc. There is ALOT of stuff that you can do for $10K, so i wouldnt be worried. substance 09-21-2003, 06:35 AM if you WANT a civic you could get a 2000/2001 (years that look the best IMO) do a engine swap plus turbo/NOS and tons of engine add-ons. I've seen a 9second All-engine Honda so i wouldnt diss'em. If you do that you'd still have tons of $ left over for hooking up the exterior. But if your open to other cars i suggest an evo or srt-4 (i've herd only good things about it). Shit, with 40 grand you can just buy a 350Z and pimp that shit stock ;] :2cents: mattyoung33 09-21-2003, 09:48 AM yeah if you think about it a pimped 350z would be awesome. an STi is already turbocharged... imgaine when you add a turbo to a 350z. That would be sick... substance 09-21-2003, 09:51 AM Imagine THIS with a good engine. ;] BullShifter 09-22-2003, 01:37 AM Put a down payment on a house or 2nd house for rental. You invest $40,000 into a civic & still Honda Civic :screwy: you will never sell it for what you invested. Why not get something nice? Like the cars stated above - BMW M3 & 350z mainly. You dump $40K into a civic & it better be rear wheel drive, there ya go do a full S2K swap. Have yall seen the 350z convertables? I think they are ugly as hell top up or down, the hard tops are sweet. Shit get yourself a used BMW Mcoupe - stock 13.4's or something & besides its a bad ass car. People either love or hate the looks but once you drive it, it will blow your mind! If you want Honda, why not an S2000 new or used? New models will have a 2.2L 4 banger still making 240hp @ 7700rpm w/ torgue 163 lb-ft @ 6500rpm - slightly new style bumpers, interior, rims, upgraded suspension & gearing. shmaptoe 09-22-2003, 01:42 AM damn dude 40 grand?! get a early 90's 240sx and swap and sr20det, get a bigger turbo and a boost controller and for like 8 grand u can have 300 to as much as 400 whp( or more if u build the block). then u got like 32 grand to do it again...like 4 times haha. but if your set on a civic- get a eg hatch and build an ls turbo and drop that bad boy in there. rip out the interior and get some racing seats. that should have you runnin 12's , with like around 300 whp. Jas_M 09-22-2003, 03:10 AM If i had $40k to toss away on a car, a Civic wouldn't even cross my mind. Everything that's been mentioned so far is pretty damn good, though i would take an EVO over the STi. Jackassi is right about the Z droptops. They are f'ugly as hell. The hardtop is ok looking, but i would take the G35 6MT coupe over the Z any day of the week. IMO, it's a lot better looking, and almost as quick (has only 7hp and 4 lbs-ft less than the Z). Handling is where the Z has an advantage, but you'll have $$ leftover, so you could throw it at the suspension to even things out. What else could you get with $40k and have $$ left for mods? Hmmmm, how bout a used '97 or '98 twin turbo Supra or an Acura NSX? How bout this? http://www.factoryfive.com/table/ffrkits/GTM/GTMkit.html Or you could always just make a hefty down payment on this: http://www.noblecars.com/flintro.html Bambooseven 09-22-2003, 04:04 AM I don't know, I drive a civic right now, and if I got $40k to spend (won the lotto or something) i think i'd put it into this car. It would just be cool not to have to worry about cost of parts. you could look at $5000 titanium intercooler tubing and be like ok cool, lets do it. that'd be really fun. or to actually do the rear wheel drive s2k/nsk conversion that we've ALL thought about . things like that. with $40k into a civic there is endless possibilities. and you wouldn't have to skimp on anything. I REALLY think he'd be going the right route putting $40k into a EJ coupe or something like that. With money like that i'd rather have the options then the "cool" base car. I'd rather drive a $40,000 civic then an M3 anyday. I guess that's just how I am. BullShifter 09-22-2003, 01:36 PM With money like that i'd rather have the options then the "cool" base car. I'd rather drive a $40,000 civic then an M3 anyday. I guess that's just how I am. :loser: :loser: :loser: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA :grinno: Are you serious Bambooseven? Bambooseven 09-22-2003, 09:08 PM I'm absolutely serious. with $40k into my car I could have it exactly how i want it, down to the screws that hold my glove box together. an M3 would be just another M3, not a car that I put thought, and effort into and express myself in building it. there is a difference between building a car and build YOUR car right? I could settle for a turbo ex and get on with my life, but why? why not do EVERYTHING? Flashy luxury cars don't excite me as much as a car that i can tell is loved. It's like the difference between raising your kids or hiring a nanny to do it for you. whatever, flame me if you want, but i sincerely feel this way. And years down the road when my car can be considered "done" you'll see why. mtdxx 09-23-2003, 10:18 AM jackasssi is right, put it toward a house, or just invest it toward an early retirement. dude, that is at least a couple more years early you could retire and enjoy life while the rest of us are still getting up every morning going to work. I wish I had the money back that I foolishly threw away on cars. They are just transportation, usually taking you somewhere you really do not want to go anyway, like work. But if you have weighed the pros and cons of it and still feel you would rather have that money into a car and that is your thing, then go for it. asaenz 09-23-2003, 10:29 AM First of all, if you really have 40K to waste like that. I would just get a nice used Supra (last gen) put some rims on it perhaps a body kit and enjoy. Take the rest of your dough and save/invest whatever. Actually I would just get a 95 HB and swap a GSR engine, get some nice rims and save/invest. That is much cheaper than a Supra w/ kit rims and all. Insurance is cheaper too. Just think how nice it would be to have 30Gs for a rainy day. If you waste 40G like that and then have some hard times, I would say that is what you get for being foolish. :2cents: Alfred T!mmy 09-23-2003, 11:03 AM I'm absolutely serious. with $40k into my car I could have it exactly how i want it, down to the screws that hold my glove box together. an M3 would be just another M3, not a car that I put thought, and effort into and express myself in building it. there is a difference between building a car and build YOUR car right? Exactly...that's exactly how I feel...all these cars would be nice but I want to make something out of nothing and if you go out and get a Z it's already something and so it wouldn't have had near as much thought and effort put into it...that's why I also like doing everything to my car myself. PLUS it saves hella money. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
