My local Big chain Hobby Lobby finally listened to me and picked up some Tamiya kits.
I am really interested in the Supra kit, but I love to build engines on my kits and was wondering what everyone thought of this kit:
TAMIYA Plastic Model Kit #24123

Is this worth the $19 to buy and build? Or should I just go ahead and build the AMT version of the F&F Supra?
Thoughts and comments on this kit are what I am looking for. Thanks!
Chris

Its a great kit, i got mine awhile back and so far i have put on the c-west kit but havent had time to finish it. For 19 bucks its ok but you can find it online for cheaper.

I'm mainly wondering if this kit has the engine. I absolutely love the looks of the car and must add one to the collection. I like the F&F car, but there is something about this one. Thanks for your comments!

It is a nice kit. And yes.... it does come with the engine. I built one. You can't go wrong with Tamiya quality. AMT on the other hand..........

you'll be in good shape with that kit no doubt about it, remember its a showroom stock supra though, whereas with the AMT your getting a fully ( :disappoin ) modified version. So kinda judge your skill level and decide what you want in your next supra model.

if you want a FAF flamboyant supra and your not one of these guys that can work with resin and build bodykits etc. then consider the AMT as it is IMO a worthy kit, not perfect, but not bad at all. :2cents:

P-man, seeing your builds makes me desire kits I would never have thought of. Very nicely done. It appears that the kit goes together without an fitment problems. Thanks for the links to your build.
As I said, I'm going to be buying that kit now. It'll be next in line after my Merc 190E.

Thanks guys!

It was Tamiya's best selling plastic kit last year. Does that help your decision? ;)

Look at the drawing on the side of the box. If it shows the engine, the kit has the engine. If it doesn't, it's a curbside. That's the common practice of Tamiya kit, and yes, the Supra kit has a simplified, but okay engine details.

hiro--Thanks! I never knew that. I always tried to read the box to see if it had engine details, but it usually is never to clear abo it.
Thanks for the tip.

So, where can we find sales volume ranking of plastic kits?

I'm really interested to find out like what are Tamiya's top ten kit, which is Fujimi's best seller, etc.....

The kit is typically Tamiya, simplified in places but generally really well done. It's a keeper.

I'm really interested to find out like what are Tamiya's top ten kit, which is Fujimi's best seller, etc.....I only know that because the lady at Tamiya/Con said it while she was stalling for time to start the raffle... ;) She actually made the crowd guess, and everybody was saying, 'Airplane this-and-that' and 'Tank so-and-so,' but nope, t'was a car kit! :p Hooray for the car guys! :D
