got new rims. now my car is too high.CraniumDesigns 09-17-2003, 03:50 PM ok, so i went out and upgrade to some 17" rims from my stock 14" tires. the tires are 205/40 kumho 711's. the fender gap is less, but my car is also about an inch higher off the ground. i need to lower it fast. i know that i want to go with ground control coilovers, but i was going to wait until i could also afford some nice adjustable gas shocks, but i hate how high my car looks. my question is: can i just get the coilovers installed right now, and drop it a bit, and survive for up to 6 months or so before i get shocks? or will my car bounce too much? please tell me what to expect in the performance of my car for the short couple months until i can afford some nice shocks. i won't be getting just springs because i realize that would be quite unstable, at least coilovers are a bit more reliable without shocks as far as i know. michaelsd16c 09-17-2003, 04:28 PM Yes they will be fine for that long and more... Well maybe not to long, just lower it about 1.5 or 1.7. I had sportline and use my stock shocks for a ltlle over a year. Just about everybody lower their car's,and dosen't get shock right away. I know about 5 peps that do it. CraniumDesigns 09-17-2003, 04:37 PM but will my car bounce a lot until i get the shocks? michaelsd16c 09-17-2003, 04:45 PM but will my car bounce a lot until i get the shocks? It will bounce either way,the more u lower it the more it will bounce When you get the new shock you will notice that the car rides better, but it wont be a big difference. Unless you get a TRue Coilover. (H&R,Tein,Nuespeed) CraniumDesigns 09-17-2003, 04:48 PM if i get true coilovers, do i still need to get shocks? michaelsd16c 09-17-2003, 05:01 PM if i get true coilovers, do i still need to get shocks? Man you really are a newbe...lol J/k we are all hear to learn...metoo OK a True coilover is a shock and a spring. Now I pretty sure that the reason why a Coilover is so good is because the spring rates are perfectly lined up with the shock.Perfectly balenced together. But you shoud be fine with GC and koni yellows. I heard good things about those shock. But I went with GC and Tokico's 5 way adjustable almost as good maybe even better...???hehe CraniumDesigns 09-17-2003, 05:23 PM would those be the illuminas? also would it be cheaper to get full tein coilovers or gc's and the koni yellows? michaelsd16c 09-17-2003, 05:36 PM yes those would be the illuminas. Tein would be cheaper and the way to go. I would have got tien, but I was a newbe in the beganing, and I still learning. If you were going to get the GC about $300 and Koni on a good day $500 Total 800 better do at once for the labor. Tein would be about 800-900$ Worth it,you can adjust 15 ways. CraniumDesigns 09-17-2003, 06:43 PM but then i would have to buy it together and i dont feel like saving 800-900 dollars again after id been trying to do that for my rims for over 6 months now. i guess i'll just do the gc's and then get some nice shocks later. I don't know where you get your prices but in no way is Tein the cheaper way to go. In fact they are one of the most expensive out there. PLease post some links to where you get your pricing because everywhere I look Illimina's cost no more than 500 for all four while Tein's cheapest is 800. Labor should not even be considered seeing as this is one of the easiest installs than can be done with a basic tool set. hondaracer 09-18-2003, 01:40 AM Ok. I can't take this anymore. Hey, you want the best of the best then you have to save for the TEIN Super Street coilovers. They are the best thing out there for anyone who is into racing and wants to be able to take a corner without so much body roll. I just bought TEIN SS and they are the best thing that I have got. I had gc's paired with koni's and they feel like shit compared to my TEIN's. TEIN are 16 way adjustable and are stiffer than any other shock, especially tokico. I also bought the TEIN coilovers for 900 and for an integra application because they come with a stiffer spring rating. Don't worry about install because you can do it yourself, easiest thing in the world with the right tools. And if you know what your doing. And plus if you do run gc on stock struts there is no real set time for when they will blow out and your car starts to bounce uncontrollably. Save. It will be worth it in the end. Because you dont want to be going around a corner and you hit a bump and your car starts to hop and than you loose traction with ground and go right off the road, especially if your a racer or just an agressive driver. I know this. I'm a racer, and not just drag, but big time on road racing! I know what I'm talking about. michaelsd16c 09-18-2003, 02:10 AM I don't know where you get your prices but in no way is Tein the cheaper way to go. I never said anything about them, I said koni yellow on a good day $500. He said that he want's to with GC and Koni yellows is would be about $800. That all depends if he get the koni's for that cheap. He could end up paying 650 for the koni yellows, and that would $950. Tein 800-900$ look around and you will see. Not trying to be rud.... :smokin: B16EJ1 09-18-2003, 03:55 AM From the Tein Catalog........ http://www.mohdparts.com/tein/tein_2003_catalog/tein_2003_catalog_02.JPG Koni yellows on ebay........$240 GC coil-overs.........$280 michaelsd16c 09-18-2003, 06:38 PM From the Tein Catalog........ http://www.mohdparts.com/tein/tein_2003_catalog/tein_2003_catalog_02.JPG Koni yellows on ebay........$240 GC coil-overs.........$280 Why would you buy anything for the calalog way to $$$. So were you talking about the koni's or the tokico's in last post? "no more then $500" are the koni's used for $240? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
