Rimssubstance 09-17-2003, 01:37 PM So I got this great idea with my car where i'll have to buy new rims and thats pretty much it, i can just do the rest at home. What i plan to do is Get white rims and replace the current ones i have. Then Paint various parts of the outside of the car white too. That way the car is mostly red with lots of white parts (rims, brakes, winshield wipers etc.) When i tell my friends about it they say it seems ricer but i've seen something like it done before and i really liked it! I'm open to suggestions though. Anyway, my question is can i/should i paint over my old gunmetal rims to make them white instead of selling them and buying new ones? esp 09-17-2003, 02:37 PM that is very ricer ish, but do whatever u want to do. However do not paint over ur rims, that is the most idotic thing u could probably do. Sell them and get new ones or shell out the money and get the real deal, powdercoated. NYREPS 09-17-2003, 02:44 PM DONT do it man!!!! it look great the way it is why do u wanna look like a lil punk driving around ,make your car look classy ,and i hate people with them crazy spoiler in the back of the car it dont look right on a round shape car it looks like there gonna fly away like a jet ,save your money on some euro lights or somthing u already got rims ,build your car nice and classy so when u drive by people know who u are. and painting over rims is GAY....if your wanna get some new rims get your self a set of crome ,and no stickers on your car thats GAY too,and i just wanna ask i guess i,m a old fart WTF is a ricer or a ricey? CraniumDesigns 09-17-2003, 04:03 PM red with white is ricey. modding your wipers at all, unless you're removing them for show purposes is stupid and ricey. don't paint over your rims and lower the value unless you're getting them powdercoated. the whole things sounds like a horrible idea. seriously, think it through for a while before you do it, sometimes i have wanted to do something and after a while i realize how ricey it would have been. substance 09-17-2003, 06:15 PM grrr, i wish i could just show you guys the pics i saw of a car that already did it. anyway, what do u mean powdercoat? is that something you do to rims or do u just buy new ones that are powder coated. NYREPS : you sound like a 12 yearold mattyoung33 09-17-2003, 07:07 PM DONT do it man!!!! it look great the way it is why do u wanna look like a lil punk driving around ,make your car look classy ,and i hate people with them crazy spoiler in the back of the car it dont look right on a round shape car it looks like there gonna fly away like a jet ,save your money on some euro lights or somthing u already got rims ,build your car nice and classy so when u drive by people know who u are. and painting over rims is GAY....if your wanna get some new rims get your self a set of crome ,and no stickers on your car thats GAY too,and i just wanna ask i guess i,m a old fart WTF is a ricer or a ricey? YOU are a ricer NYREPS! Atleast you dont like the big wings on our little imports tho. However you say save your money on some euro lights! That right there my friend is RICE! "get your self a set of chrome", AHH chrome is the worst style rim on a honda civic!! THE WORST, pleaz no one ever listen to this homosexual kid! altezzas and chrom rims on civics... and they wonder why ppl call us ricers? B16EJ1 09-17-2003, 08:05 PM Is that a DOHC VTEC sticker or SOHC? Miataracer 09-17-2003, 08:15 PM overall I think it is a nice clean looking car... remove the VTEC stickers, the spoiler is fine, do NOT paint your wheels (do a search and you can learn plenty about powder coating) BTW... Chrome wheels on a Civic? NO! And I also happen to have white wheels on my bright red Civic and they look fine. That being said I do plan to strip my wheels over the winter and have them repowder coated flat or satin black. Had white for two years now, time for something new. :bananasmi Miataracer 09-17-2003, 09:46 PM I'm not sure if the search function is still down? Anyways, powder coating in a nutshell: Powder coating is a painting system that withstands chips, scratches, and chemicals much, MUCH better than standard paint. The way it works is a very fine powder of pigmented plastic is electrically charged as it is sprayed out of a gun, the powder then clings to whatever it is being sprayed at (metal) that has been given the opposite electrical charge. After spraying the object is baked in an oven at a certain temperature long enough for the powder to melt and form a shell over the object. It’s kind of like magic shell on an ice cream cone! If you were to paint a set of wheels white you would have a horribly difficult time cleaning them. White powder coated wheels have a very tough finish so they are easier to clean. If anyone wants to add to/correct my post feel free to step in. substance 09-18-2003, 02:47 AM ok so i ask this again, do i powdercoat my CURRENT rims or buy rims that are already powdercoated? You said not to PAINT my current ones. and no, i dont plan on getting euro lights, for some reason the standard tail lights on a red civic goes really. Oh, and the VTECH sticker came on the car when i got it and i think it adss a lil something to make it a bit more noticable. hondaracer 09-18-2003, 03:05 AM The rims you got now are nice. So dont get new ones. You can easily have someone powder coat the ones you have now. Just find that person around your place that will do it for yah, or if it comes to it, pack those ones and send them to someone if no one is close enough to you. Also chrome anything on a civic is stupid. anything euro on a civic is just plain idiotic. all jdm is the way to be. losing the wing I think will add a sleeker look to the car also..... I went the easy way and bought some forged lightweight volk te-37 racing rims for my civic...... I almost forgot, don't go white rims, bronze will give a more racer in mind look and will compliment that red color better when you throw on some carbon fiber parts on the outside too, like a hood, and front lip.... Spoon Sports is my style Miataracer 09-18-2003, 08:33 AM Oh, and the VTECH sticker came on the car when i got it and i think it adss a lil something to make it a bit more noticable. I am going to assume that your incorrect spelling was a joke. In case you missed it I said I plan to repowder coat my wheels as well. Having that done is all well and good but keep in mind before you do that it would be good to get the wheels stripped down to bare metal. If you had a lot of time you could do it yourself with sand paper and stripper. But, like I said powder coat is TOUGH. Sandblasting may be the easiest way... I do agree though that the wheels look nice as they are. :2cents: vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
