Just brought my 95 Jetta home from the dealer, where they were supposed to replace my front wheel bearings. The passenger side had the telltale loud hum of bad bearings, which was amplified whenever I made a left turn. It was a self diagnoses, and I brought it in and asked that they just replace both. (of course this was before I new that the whole job was going to cost me nearly $500 beans).

Anyway as I am driving home, I notice the same noise that I heard before, and as before it seems to come and go depending on whether I am turning left or right. I spoke to the dealership, who told me that they noticed another noise that sounded like bad wheel bearings but that they think that my idler pulley needs to be replaced.

So, has anyone had their idler pulley go bad, and if so does it sound like bad wheel bearings? Also, if it is the idler pulley, shouldn't I hear it all the time, even at idle?

Feeling like I've been taken for a ride! :banghead:

Thanks for any info!
