Car wants to shut off after a few secs...mazda91mx6 09-07-2003, 06:44 PM Hey everyone, I have a 91 MX6 LX and I'm having some engine problems...when I bought it back in June it was great but then I had a clutch problem...I think that is fixed but the pedal has too much freeplay(any suggestions for that?). Now when I turn the car on it will run for about 5 secs then just shut off. I can get away with revving it once or twice. I've checked the air cleaner and replaced the fuel filter..I don't know what to do...does anyone know what's going on? ajech86 10-09-2003, 08:57 PM try to bleed the clutch pedal, if it is hydrolic, if it's manual then tighten the cable. About the car staling, I have no clue but I had that problem before and the air filter was clogged up, when I replaced it the car was fine. 71maverick 11-17-2003, 08:48 PM try to bleed the clutch pedal, if it is hydrolic, if it's manual then tighten the cable. My best advice is to find either a vacuum leak or the mass air flow system (device itself or the plug and wiring has been damaged). The vacuum leak can be either after the airbox, in the PCV circulation system or the cap where you add oil is loose or missing. Cree8tiveN8tive 11-06-2005, 12:07 PM Our 93 had a similar problem. It was some kind of fuse trouble. With our car, unless you open and close the passenger door side every time you use your keychain to unlock the doors, the alarm will go off, or the car will shut down after about 10 minutes. It could also be a remote car starter - we had less problems once we shut it off... MazdaX 11-29-2005, 04:15 AM If you can rev it to keep it running, sounds like a detination supply delivery problem ie : Fuel, Vacuum, Air, Spark. Check your spark plugs, wires, vacuum lines, air filter, all fuses, If none of that is the issue, hit the car up with some new O2 sensors. Visorman 10-18-2006, 07:23 PM Had the same problem with a '90 MX6 LX (179k-automatic). First the car would stall at idle (only in gear), so I thought it was the torque converter locking up. After a few weeks of this, it would do the start then stall after 5 seconds routine, unless I kept the rpm's up. I replaced the gas filter, air filter, and O2 sensor, with no change. Then replace the Mass AirFlow Sensor with a junk one from eBay. All problems are gone, including the transmission one. BTW-the check engine light only started to light at the end of all this when it would always stall, but I never checked the codes to see what reading it gave. pinnky69 06-24-2007, 09:17 PM Hey everyone, I have a 91 MX6 LX and I'm having some engine problems...when I bought it back in June it was great but then I had a clutch problem...I think that is fixed but the pedal has too much freeplay(any suggestions for that?). I have had that same probel with mine. it is you mass air flow sensor & YOU are also loosing fuel pressure. try to un hook the fuel line on the fule rail on your intake. turn the key on to start position. if fuel comes out you may it should work also if no fuel comes out then you need to replace the sock on the fuel pump located in the take under the back seat vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
