Great job.

The cockpit and engine detail are great.

I hope to accomplish your level of realism when I get around to building mine.

It turned out very nice.

one question how long did it take

Sennake
09-04-2003, 02:28 PM
About a month or so I guess...

Actually ... I started to build the Lotus begin august but... I had it in my shelve since 1994 when I inherated it from a deceased friend who had started the painting of the body. I tried to spray a layer on top of my friend's work, but that didn't work out. So I had to strip all the paint and start over again, which I did. From there on I worked almost all month of august to reach completion today.

I described my first steps on this model in this (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=108229&page=2&pp=15&highlight=Lotus) topic, but I started a new one after a while, because I was going kinda off-topic in the first one.

Wow, that's awsome!! Great job!

PS - How's that Ford coming along? I've bought that kit today and I'm starting on it tonight..Do you have any coments on that? Is it a straight forward build, or not really? Thanks

Sennake

Actually... I'm starting to work on that Ford tomorrow

The Lotus has taken all my attention, now I'm gonna "throw" myself on the Ford. It will be a straight forward build, but with lots of attention to detail. The Lotus is also a straight forward build BTW...

I hate you! :banghead:

I m never going to make that car look so good as you just did!

Man, I love the little details that make it a true masterpiece!
Gorgeous engine detail, exhaust, nice wood effect on the steering wheel, and one thing I don't really see, the red in the cockpit, is it flocking ? it doesn't look plain, looks a bit textured, or that might just be the jpg compression?

Two thumbs up !
Olivier

Damn, I hate to disappoint you but... it's really the jpg compression I'm afraid. I painted the interior with "plain" matt red paint...

Beautiful work!!!

Lotus always look good on green (metallic isn't my favorite but yours made me change my mind a little)

I'll use your work for referance when I get to make mine.

thats a nice car you've built.

I love it! I really like the way you made the engine look "dirty"

is that metallic paint on the engine? What kind? it's really nice you cannot see any flakes.

is that metallic paint on the engine? What kind?

The engine has been painted in 4 major colors : matt green for the engine block, haze grey for the gearbox, semi gloss black for the oil pan and flat aluminium (Tamiya XF-16) for the engine cover. I suppose that is the color you are reffering to? Also I blackwashed the completed engine with Tamiya's Smoke X-19 and then I drybrushed it very subtle with Silver Leaf.

Because they often are, and I kinda like it that way. Seems that it's safer with a yellow nose... Why? Beats me. Maybe it's easier to estimate the distance to the front of the car?

Btw, is the wood effect on the steering wheel also just JPEG compression?

Outstanding work, the attention to detail is amazing. That engine looks like it's actually been used!

I look forward to your progress on the Focus WRC, I'm another person with this kit in the to-do pile.

I was wondering you have posted some large good quality pics. How do you do this, do you not exceed the forum's size limit? Or how doe you reduce the jpg quality so well and have the pics look so good??

Lol, no, it's created by painting it with a matt brown paint and after drying I went over it with the always present Tamiya Smoke X-19 :)

Guy, as I said on "De Paddock" (http://forum.depaddock.net/) this is just a heavelny model. I drove it's younger brother the Caterham Super7 for a weekend and you just did this Lotus all the justice it deserves in 1/24th!!

Here are some pics of the one I rented a couple of years ago. I hope you don't mind

that must be one of the cleanest builds i have ever seen . . . absolutley flawless work there. I love the metallic dark green, a cool yet subtle twist on the typical (solid) british racing green you normally see.
Doesnt the yellow nose date back to the racing Lotus 25? i think yellow and green are the factory team colours. But i might be mistaken, just a thought.
Is that the tamiya kit or a different make? i notice that its got a different windshield to the one in the tamiya catalog (BTW, your looks much better!)

IIRC you get the choice between the full one and this one the "clubman" racer .

as for the yellow on the nose, I would also really know why.. what I ve read and heard , it's basically to be spotted better through traffic (I.E driving between a van)
Not sure what to think of it .?
