Which one of these two cars do you think is better? I just want to know other opinions, as for mine, Id say the ZO6 is better.

The Z06 is faster but I like the styling of the Cobra R more.

Define better. Better as in how? Acceleration? Braking? Ergonomics?
The Z06 is faster straight line. The Cobra R is just slightly faster in the slalom. Neiter cars are ergonomic wonders, but it's obvious that both companies put their money into the drivetrain and engine.

I would go w/the 405HP ZO6...it's faster...0-60 in 4.0 seconds...while the Cobra R is like...i think 4.8 seconds...
Reliability...both arent going to be...but my money is on the Vette

Theres nothing to bet against. The Type-R was put up against the 385HP Z06... The 04' Z06 with the new suspension and 20 extra HP...it surprisingly DOES drive like a wholly new car. It isnt a comparison at all. The Vette will waste it in every aspect, all the while listening to music and having a comfortable ride. Mustangs SOUND fast. They aren't.

On all points the Z06 takes it, I mean come on, Mustangs are not sports cars, they can't turn, they can't brake and they aren't all that fast compared to real sports cars, and I don't think that the Z06 does 0-60 in 4.0... neither does the Mustang R do it in 4.8... if it were so both of those cars would be seriously undervalued. A stock 2003 GT3 (380hp and it weighs significantly less with far more of a race bent) does it in 4.3

Ill admit there is ALOT I truly dont know about. But I try to keep track of everything I read. Ive read at least 10+ articles on the Z06 since the 405 HP change. Ive seen as low as 3.98 and as high as a 4.28 or so 0-60 for the Z06. Its all dependant on drivers, tracks, weather, etc. Most tests tend to hit the 4.0-4.1 mark with the Z06 though. I dont remember the runnings of the Type-R, but back when the vette had 385HP it was pretty close.

Do you know if they were using road tyres or slicks?
The GT3s time was tested on their stock road tyres... most likely those vette times were seen running on slick "cheater" tyres.
Regardless I'd love to see you race a Vette against a GT3 on the nurburgring (spelling may be wrong, while I may understand and speak german I can't write/spell it! :) )

PLEASE oh PLEASE tell me how much the GT3 Costs. The vette is ALWAYS putting up numbers matching ANY Porsche, and its usually half..if not a quarter of the price. So please tell me that your probably 250k Car can kick the hell out of the Z06. Meanwhile I'd put the 427TT, and any kinds of handling kit I needed just to reach maybe 175k... And Still run better, quicker, and look like a "unique" vette.

The GT3 does not run on regular rubber either, so don't act as if it's perfectly normal. The Vette was using stock high performance rubber eagle F1 SC's, of much lesser quality then the R compound GT3 tire, give the Z06 the same quality rubber as the Porsche and it's time will improve. Both are street legal and can be driven in most any weather, barring snow.

Good point made then, and I concede, but I've never had anything against corvettes, oh and the GT3 is only 140k canadian... 255k would get you a barely faster GT2.
But again, I don't consider a 1/4 mile drag race to be real racing, turning at speed is what counts.
Furthermore I don't condone illegal street racing, if you want to race do it on the track, for everyone's safety!
So .2-.5 seconds (for 0-60) this way or that doesn't really matter in a 50 mile race around the track :)
And that GT3 is nimble as all hell :D
Oh, and bringing your vette up to 175k (USD) (close to 275k canadian) I could do a lot more with a GT3 and an extra 100k in mods than you could with the vette, especially since the GT3 gear ratios are changeable for track readiness (in the stock model) I'd be more than happy to put a 175k GT3 against a similarily priced Vette on any track in the world.

Hey dont get me wrong, Porsches are awesome handling cars, and they are pretty quick... But you are overlooking the fact that with the 427TT the vette would outpower that Porsche seriously... almost humiliatingly, not to mention the additional money you could put into for handling package... The Vette is a hell of a handling/driving car, plain and simple, the Porsche is as well, but you pay more for its sophistication and Name than for true performance...but thats my opinion.. Im just a drop dead Chevy Corvette/Silverado guy. Besides, I am in Germany, Ill run ya with my Vette if I can figure out where Nurburing is and if its an open track, it would be awesome to put my car on it, as good of a name as that track has. ;) You'll prolly waste me though, Its a normal 98 Coupe with just a couple little mods so far ;)

The ZO6 has one of the best suspensions of any production car. Saying its only fast in a straight line is ridiculous. As far as the ZO6 vs. the Mustang that is stupid. A mustang isn't even in the same category. An SS camaro will beat a mustang. the cobras only have 390 hp with DOHC and a super charger that is just weak. If you ad a super charger to a vette you will be beating vipers.

Vettribution, you just don't get it do you? There is more to a car than performance. There are things that you can't find in any Vette that a Porsche, Ferrari, Viper, Lamborghini, Panoz, McClaren, and the list goes on and on. Performance is about the only thing the Vette has going for it. The interior is cheap and the styling is quite plain. People who have the money for the cars I mentioned won't buy a Corvette. They would rather have an exotic or a supercar, and the Vette is neither. It is simply a sports car. Price isn't an issue; you need to get it through your head when talking about such cars like the GT3.
I am also sick of hearing about the Lingenfelter 427TT from people. Big deal, it has more power, but you had to modify it to do it. It didn't come that way. Bragging rights only matter to me in a stock for stock situation and stock for stock the GT3 is so much better than a Corvette in every way. If you want to brag about a modded car, then do it modded for modded, not modded for stock.
As for the real debate, stop calling the Cobra the "Type R" That is a Honda trademark, not Ford. It is called the SVT Cobra R. Also it is no slouch in the turns. It no longer has a solid rear axle and can handle the corners pretty well. It also has some bite to match its bark. However; I would take the Z06 over the Cobra R. The Corvettes engine has much more potential than the Cobra R's does. Though I do like the styling of the Cobra R more than the plain styling of the Vette.
The Vette has my vote for this comparison.

I agree with you, to an extent.
People who are in the market for exotics such as Lamborghini's, Viper's, Porsche's, Ferrari's, ect. are seldom interested in a Corvette, as you stated. These are the big boys we're talking about here. These cars start at around $85k for the cheapest of the bunch new, and the price goes much farther into the sky from there. Why do the people that have the money buy these cars? Because they are exclusive, fast, and are instant status symbols. Also because they just can. :)More than that, they are great cars. These kind of cars cause traffic accidents from people staring at them as they pass by. I almost caused one the other day staring at the first Murcielago I have ever seen on the road.
When buying one of these cars, performance is important to be sure, but their uniqueness and style are just as important. A exotic must have a blend of all of the above to be sucessful. Why does the Acura NSX not sell? For it's price, it does not offer the performance you would expect when you are putting ninty thousand on the table. Why does a 911 sell? Because Porshe made that car into an all around great exotic long ago. Performance, looks; it's all there.
Now when it comes to buying a sports car, performance is high up on the list. Why else would you really want one? The car's performance and drivibility has to excite you enough to buy one. Looks or interior design will not sell a sports car by themselves. The performance is what matters.
The Vette has always worn conservative styling. Why? Because it wears well. Exotic cars, such as the Ferrari Enzo may carry more radical styling, but at the price they are at, they can. A 'Vette needs to appeal to a bit more of the market that may not like the Enzo's styling.
Enough rambling.:)

I am one of the biggest mustang fans around. The Cobra R does 0-60 in 4.4 not 4.8. I would kill to have one of these cars. They look twice as good as the Z06's. There were only 300 of these made (rumered they made 307) and I don't see how anyone could want a normal vette over this gorgeous car. They top out at 175 (same as Z06). If you haven't seen one go to: www.live2cruize.com_mustang_cobra_r.htm

Both the 04 Z06 & GT3 get a 7:56 on the Nurburgring. The Z06 was driven by John Heinricy, SCCA T1 National Champ I believe. Now the Z06 just needs to be tested by Horst von Saurma.

The styling is quite plain? Only because so many are on the road (ie: a very successful car). I barely turn my head when I see a 350Z anymore. When visiting a French Chevrolet dealership a group of children walked by and their jaws literally dropped when they saw the Corvettes on display.

The SVT Cobra R IRS is not nearly as much of an upgrade as you might think. Per Ford, when the IRS was originally designed for the Cobra (1998 model year I believe), it was a prerequisite that the IRS had to use the same suspension mounting points as the solid rear axle. As a result, the IRS is only an advantage at a very few tracks, all of which are very smooth, like Road Atlanta or the road course at Las Vegas. Anywhere with bumps, there is very little difference between the two.

The mounting points for ALL Mustangs from 1987-present are the same, and I believe the rear suspension mounting points go back to the late 60's.

Mikesvolta, you are full of it. The 03 cobra and 00 cobra r will KILL the camaro ss (a good competitor for the camaro ss is the MACH 1). They both will also beat the base corvette. The 2003 cobra is actually pulling ~430hp (ford underrated the engine) and is actually a good Z06 competitor in straight line performance. Yes, the Z06 will handle better because it is lighter and has a better suspension, BUT IT SHOULD. It costs 15,000 dollars more. In conclusion, both cars are good. They both are fast and look great. In my opinion, stangs are underrated and vettes are severly overrated.

Not all Z06 are have 405 hp, it depends on what type it is. my dad has a red 2002 Z06 and it only has 385. i want my WS6 to have much more than that, what can I say.
