Well Here Is some Info,I bought my 2001 Xterra SE about a month ago,and Like everyone else some things need to be changed....
As I progess with the changes I will write my findings!!

First of all X did not come with a first aid KIT,I have been watching these on ebay and they go like hot cakes for $30.00 + and Im not sure what you get with the KIT.The other day I was In sams club and they have a foldable first aid kit made out of green material that comes with 370 peices of first aid gear, for under 20 bucks. And guess what It fits In the xterra first aid kit pocket....perfect...

The Next thing that had to change was the speakers,To me the original speakers sound like megaphones,I could not hear the symbols.
I went to crutchfield.com and their were 2 types of speakers that fit the Xterra !Fosgate and JBL!,being a guitarist I went for the JBLs they have tweeters that are made out of the same material that bullet proofing Is made out of,Now I had the GTO series before and they do crank, and have some good bass....The cool thing Is they were on sale!!!! I bought the JBL components with crossovers for $120.00 and the 6 x 9s for $80.00 so for all four It costed me $200.00 with free shipping and dont forget the crutchfield 4 pay plan....cant beat that....
As I progress I will let you know how they sound,I also plan adding an amp and head unit,Ya know my X came with the 6 disc changer, and I know somewhere they make a reducer that you can Interface the output wires and convert them to low voltage for the preamp Inputs...I might try this and I will keep you posted....Mabye I will keep the stock stereo if I can get it to sing.....

They make reducers for the speaker voltage, but the sound produced is such that I doubt you will be satisfied. I have known several people to have trouble with the 6 disc changer anyway, so you might want to either wait until that day comes and put a good unit in or just replace it with a good unit right off the bat that has the pre-amp outputs so you don't have to use the reducer. Of course, if you wait for it to go to that great big Xterra in the sky, it will NEVER go bad and you will have to deal with it until you sell the truck! That is just Murphy's Law.

The stereo Installation has gone well so far,Many people have asked If I really did burn the stereo :-),Na I threw It on ebay and It went like a hotcake....The Jbls seem to rock,Allthough I still like the Infinity kappas a bit better, but these do well for the price.I managed to have a problem fitting the amp In the X,I used a crunch V drive 100 x 4 amp I found on e bay,The only place I could find to put the thing was underneath the passenger seat.
And the only way I could do It was lifting the back of the seat up 1 1/2 and Inch.I used 3/4 rigid couplings to do this.I might cut them down abit when I get a chance mabye to 1 1/4 inch.I found the longer metric bolts at home depot just add the space distance. What I found out If you raise the back seat that distance I mentioned, you can pop the seat back one position It will match the drivers seat position....Well Deck In, Amp In,Speakers In,and Sirius IN......I hope this help those of you, with your Installation!!!
I did have some buzzes on the fron speakers,I used god old silicone to cement them to the frames of the speaker extensions...

Any questions don@lanset.com

PS...Im still tinkering on the lifter noise,I will post my findings when I get a chance, under the appropriate heading.
