Brand Pref for Subs?

Hey y'all, I'm looking at getting a 15" incher, and using a ported box. A couple I've been looking at are: Rockford Fosgate RFZ3415, or a couple different MTX's lower end subs, anyone have any preference between? Also, right now I'm pushing 1 10" Lighting Audio (100 watt RMS), with a Pyramid (I know, I know!) amp, which I currently have bridged to 200 watts (otherwise 2X400watts). I do plan on getting a better amp very soon, but not before I get a 15" with a ported box (to use in conjuction with my 10" sealed). I've heard that underpowering a sub can damage it, do you think there's any risk here? Thanks!!

sooo you have an amp that puts out 400x2 yet it's bridged to 200x1? Something doesn't add up....but anyways, first pick out what sub you want and then we can tell you if that is enough power. For ANY decent 15 that won't sound like sh*t when you turn it up, you will need atleast 500+ rms of CLEAN power IMO. If you plan on going with a cheap sub then don't get a 15 in my opinion, cheap 15s just suck because the magnet isn't big enough to give it the quick response subs need, so the notes blur together, you get lots of overhang, etc. It basically just sounds bad. If you don't want to spend a lot of money, then don't get a 15, get a 12 or even a better 10

he should be fine a 15". most of the time the 15" shares the same motor as the 10 and 12", if not bigger. transient response won't be affected.

sure it shares the same motor, but on a bigger cone where it has less control

on a higher $ sub where the motor is pretty large to begin with then it isn't a problem, I'm talking about on the cheaper subs like he was referring to where that small motor can barely control the 10 or 12, then you throw a 15" cone on there and things go downhill.

Either a AWIS-15 for high power
or AW1500Q for less power

cone diameter has no affect on "control" or transient response. the extra mass doesn't affect it whatsoever. even ask ben..i'm sure he'll say the same thing. :wink:

ok well rockford fosgate makes some damn goood stuff. i have a freind running an infinity and it sounds awesome. my stereo sounds like crap cus its all cheep stuff right now but thats going to change soon. with the turn out on my freinds system ill probably be going with a simliar setup to his only in component. anyways id take the rockford over the mtx. id research other options before deciding.
