I was just wondering cause i seen alot of people that painted alot of theire interior, i was just wondering the method of how they did it and what kind of paint i should use??? Thanx

heres how i did it...

1) remove peices to be painted
2)sand them lightly
3) spray one coat of Krylon Primer
4)allow primer to dry then apply two coats of Krylon interior/exterior
5)allow paint to dry, then apply one coat of krylon Crystal-Clear
6)CAREFULLY reassemble dryed peices

but be gentle when re-assembling, I scratch mine against the stearing column and had to do some touch up work. Also, if you do scratch it, you can by little jars of paint called Short-Cuts that are the same color for touch ups...

ok so im guessing the Krylon interior/exterior is the color paint of your choice? What other brands are good? aslo where can i get this stuff? AIDS or a car shop or any hardware store?

yes... but there is a new Krylon, its called Fusion. They claim it requires no priming as it is specially formulated for painting plastic, But Ive never used it so.....

I got my paint at wal-mart, but any local hardware store sells it... Any brand will work, but in my past experiences, krylon is easier to use than the generic brands.

alright check it out i painted my car and my friends my friend paid me to paint his he liked my work so good you need to get some primer go to advanced the best stuff ive used i dont know the hane it says sandable primer on it it has a picture of a quarter pannel that is painted red and primer and get what ever color you want of another brand of enamel it says enamel on the can prime thr hell out of it no need to sand as the primer is the point i didnt sand mine and its turned out very nice i get lots of complimants then let it dry after paint it let it dry paint it again this will add layers so overtime the grease of your fingers wont fade it as easily or krylon i think im sorry im bad with brand names makes a special spray paint that bonds to plastic with no primer needed just spray and as far as rustoleum its good for metal but i wouldnt recommend for plastic and they also make on interior paint for your carpet and stuff i also did that to mine and it looks nice.

i painted the vent and dash pieces on my old Grand Prix and am about to do the same to my Z24. i went the same exact path as sweetwhitecav. used the Krylon primer, interior/exterior, and crystal coat. i think when i paint my cavvy im just gonna go with krylon fusion and crystal coat though. maybe save me some money and get the same look and quality if the fusion does what its said to do. personally im not into going too far out on my interior painting.. i like to make it look nice but not too flashy.. i only paint the vent fins and the dash vent peices

Then you can get stickers and a HUGE wing after that :lol2:

i primed, painted, and clearcoated my interior, but the ball of the shifter still remaines tacky after 2 weeks. everything else dried hard except the shifter. any advice?

make sure you use qualified paint for interior parts...not spray paint my friend did that and it smelled for weeks

i wouldnt recommend painting the shifter i would tell you go out and buy a shifter but if you want to take the shifter off and wash it in ajax the oils from your hands are in the shifter so its stopping it from drying and when it does dry it will fade because your hands are in constant contact with it but thats my advice

i never thought about all the oil it absorbed through my hands. thanks for the advice. guess i learned that lesson the hard way

dunno if its been said but I always clean with rubbing alcohol and use latex gloves to keep oil from my fingers off the parts. Then primer...paint....clear. It is pretty important to paint in light layers to assure there is no dripping or anything. So keep all layers light and keep the nozzle clean. Also, just cause it may feel dry and you can't leave finger prints doesn't mean it is dry. When I first started painting interiors I would always think it is dry and run it against something resulting in a scratch. If you want it to look good....TAKE YOUR TIME.

I used the Krylon Fusion paint to paint my dash of my 02 cavalier and all that needed done was just some sanding to make it dull and rough then sprayed it like 10 million times til it looked right. and it looks good other than when the dash was being installed afterward it got chiped by the steering wheel but no big deal. It looks good and matches my car.

hi im painting my interior when i sand the items at first they dont seem to want to sand very well does this take time in sanding and should i sand it till its realy smooth

no you just want to scuff it a little and i would use more than two coats of paint just use light coats it comes out even and no runs.
