I own 1986 Scirocco 16 Valve with 201,000 miles on it with stock 16v engine. The car runs well except for the oil light coming on sometimes. It usually occurs when taking a corner fast or a long fast turn on a sharp freeway ramp. It only buzzes and stays on few seconds at most. The problem happens probably happens only a couple times a week and been happening for about a year. The oil level is fine and the temperature is normal. I change the oil regularly. I drive the car to work (20 mile RT) 5 days a week.
A couple times in very hot weather (temps in the 100's) going up a canyon in the mountains the light (oil temp high) has gone off just going strait up the hill.
Do oil pumps slowly go bad, is it more likely the sending unit or could the oil inlet in the pump be partially blocked?
Is it a problem I should be able to tackle myself?

Thanks,

Talhofer

nope, it's the oil sender light. I have the 8v in a 1985 and it was out when I bought the car (hey, it only cost 400 bucks!). But yeah, it should be next to the oil filter and will look like a little plug with a wire coming out of the top. It's like 7 dollars at autozone. No big whoop. Just swap it out next time the oil is changed. You'll also need a deep well socket, so take the new one to the hardware store if you don't have one that fits. Drain the oil, screw the old out, in with the new, plug it back in, and you're done.
