All Apologies.....GZusREVolution 08-24-2003, 01:23 PM Sorry if you've already read a similar post...and I apologize for bringing my Accord problems here, but the 92+ Civic forum has the tips. The trans in my Accord started slipping horribly yesterday while driving up and down some winding hilly roads. I pulled over, checked the fluids and let it cool down. When I left the gas station it continued to act up, although I was able to get it home by babying the pedal (appr. 25 miles). The car has 79,000 miles (I put 4000 on it since February when I bought it) and the tranny has sometimes shifted a little hard but never actually slipped until yesterday (heard that was common). Should I change the filter and fluid.....add some tranny goober...tranny over-haul kit....auto tranny selector cable.....call a funeral home ??? The fluid still maintains its shade of red, but it definetely smells burnt. All comments and advice are appreciated...(its kissed, isn't it?) Dons92CivicVX 08-26-2003, 01:47 PM Dude, I believe you said that you checked fluids, however, slipping can be caused by dirty fluid clogging hydraulic passageways, aerated fluid, incorrect fluid level, improperly adjusted bands or worn friction materials. Upon checking the fluid level, if the fluid level is high, fluid aeration occurs interrupting its hydraulic properties, reducing hydraulic pressure on bands and clutches and causing slipping. Friction material and fluid gets burnt and destroyed in the process which is what you smell. If the fluid smells burnt, looks orange or brown and has debris in it, usually friction material, the transmission may require an overhaul. Hopefully your tranny isn't hosed, and personally I would try replcing the fluids, filter, and even doing as you suggested and add the tranny overhual kit before making funeral arrangements... Hope this helps. Knowledge is key, Jesus is King. GZusREVolution 08-26-2003, 04:46 PM Brother Don, I've changed the trans. fluid, and by the looks of what came out, I think it's safe to say the friction material is officially burnt. Muchas contamination. She shifts a little better though....until everything warms up. Unfortunately I don't believe a trans. filter is available for this transmission, so I'm looking into the rebuild. I was going to take it off the road before the harsh NY winter anyway, it'll just be a little sooner than scheduled. It could be worse though; as fate would have it, I picked up my new(97) Civic today....so as not to be totally without a car( you gotta love that guy upstairs ;o) Thank you for your lone posting...your concern and advice is greatly appreciated!! See ya soon, GZus J.C....Represent 94tegRS 08-26-2003, 06:14 PM you should make sure there is no filter available, not just be pretty sure there isnt, cuz in my truck it slipped so bad, and stunk like hell, shifted hard to drive or reverse, didnt shift out of 1st, I changed the filter/fluoid and it drives like new again, even after its warmed up. before i changd it all it drove good until warmed up, my dad told me it was cause the sediment or how it is spelled would settle and it took a while of driving it for it to get mixed around and flowing thorught the passages again which caused the problem. GZusREVolution 08-26-2003, 06:45 PM What up tegRS I wasn't able to find a 94 Accord trans. filter kit available, nor am I able to locate a trans. filter on the car or in the manual. If you do stumble on to it ,PLEASE, let me know. I'd much rather endure the expense of a filter kit as opposed to a overhaul. I was also looking into whether Accords(HONDAS) utilize an "end clutch"(located on the outside of the transmission). I understand some Mitsubishi' have them, which means nothing in terms of Hondas'. Trans. filters rule; imagine the time I'll save by not having to drop the trans. :grinyes: Chutch, GZus I was also looking into whether Accords(HONDAS) utilize an "end clutch"(located on the outside of the transmission, allowing the transverse of the forward gears :dunno: ?). I understand some Mitsubishi' have them, which means nothing in terms of Hondas'. 94tegRS 08-26-2003, 07:09 PM to tell you the truth I goyt no clue what you are talking about. I know absolutely nothing about automatics(well, barely i learned how they work in auto shop 3 and a half years ago but forogt, also i dont like them I also know very little about 5 speeds, I just know my boss told me to do this before i tried anything else and it fixed the problem 100%. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
