I am considering buying a 1970 Volkswagen Beetle. It is a friends, but he says the brakes are bad. He doesn't know what is wrong with them, except they don't work at all. Does anyone know what the problem may be? What is the most cost efficient way to fix this?????

Can't tell with the info you provided. It could be as simple as bleeding them to bad as needing new cylinders, lines, pads, and drums. You might want to pick up the Bently service manual and/or John Muir's How to keep your Volkswagen Alive.

Well, the car has sat in a garage for a long time. I have noticed that lots of these tend to need brake work done on them. Would it just be better to just buy a disc brake kit or something like that?
