VTEC or not??

Does the fact that the valve cover on my 97 Civic EX does not say VTEC absolutely indicate that it is not a VTEC engine. The block code is d16y8 and I'm led to believe it is a SOHC VTEC. I heard they only put the VTEC valve covers on the EX for a couple of years although all EX models were VTEC since '94 or '96 ( :bs: ??)

all 6th gen(96-00) ex's are vtec. i think it was only the 5th gen(92-95) civic's that had vtec written on the valve cover.

What are the chances of the 5th gen.VTEC valve cover fitting on a 6th gen. d16y8 head

they should be interchangable, but if the block says y8 that is a vtec motor.

My 95 D16Z6 had the VTEC valve cover but overall, the valvecover does not make the engine. The VTEC solenoid behind the distibutor does.

Who cares if the valve cover says vtec, if it is, it is. You don't drive around with your hood up do you?

 Don't really give a f$@# if anyone sees it or likes it. If you like it, throw one on (easy mod)....but more importantly than anything...Its still gonna be a VTEC either way....(even if it is only SOHC)
