Turbocharged D16Y8?mfmark5007 08-23-2003, 06:16 PM Do you think a turbo would be good in a D16Y8 engine? I mean, would it create enough exhaust compression to actually turn a decent turbo for good boost. I thought a supercharger is meant for small displacement engines? esp 08-23-2003, 07:26 PM what size turbo u want to run, cause there are kits out there for your car, best and cheapest one to probably get is the greddy kit for 92-95 civics and yes it will fit. I thought a supercharger is meant for small displacement engines? No way on the S/C thing there. Look at domestics. S/C is the only sensable way to force induct a small or even big block motor. Vortec for example has been around for AGES designing and making factory spec S/C units for various GM vehicles, cars and trucks alike. Turbo is good in D motor, but you can't boost it terribly high without some motor upgrading. 8psi max, but then you'll have to strengthen the rods or replace them altogether. It also has a lot to do on turbo size, and turbo used. A perfectly matched wheel to housing will yield the best results. You definitely don't want something that needs a lunchbreak worth of time to spool up. RX_speed 08-24-2003, 04:08 PM a friend of mine had a T3/T4 hybrid on his Y8 and it spooled pretty quick. The car was pretty fast for having everything else stock besides exhaust and cone filter RX_speed 08-24-2003, 04:09 PM btw it had a ceramic ball bearing super_man_3179 08-24-2003, 06:18 PM S/C is the only sensable way to force induct a small or even big block motor. S/C will yield a weaker gain than any turbo at the same boost level. Turbo's aren't bad with proper tuning. I've seen turbos on small engines with 12psi with stock internals....PROPER TUNING!! S/C are for people who want power throughout the whole powerband. A nice increase but not nearly as much of an increase as a Turbo. A T3/T4 hybid on a civic doesn't take long to spool at all. 98silvercivic 01-18-2004, 01:28 AM I'm going with the new greddy kit. I think it better to go turbo on honda engines, because they don't have high horsepower stock, why would you want to take power to add power. Turbo runs off exaust, with the s/c you'll be taking power from the belt drive which turns out you only get about a 40% gain. coocoo32 01-18-2004, 12:17 PM But superchargers are much easier to tune. No wastegate: no turbo overboost or underboost. NOBU-SAN 01-19-2004, 05:29 PM I thought that I was the only pro-sc person around here. It just makes sense to me to have power increases all the time, not just half. PunkAlex 01-19-2004, 05:46 PM It just makes sense to me to have power increases all the time, not just half. Jesus-thats a lotta lag to be spooling at 3500 rpms! CivicEXRider 01-20-2004, 09:33 AM I run a GT-28R dual ball bearing turbo on a D16Y8. It starts spooling around 2k rpm. It's fully spooled to 12psi by 3500 rpm. Don't know about you but if I'm racing I'm never below 3500 rpm. Heck normal driving I'm rarely below 3k. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
