I painted my heatshield...Ricochet 08-23-2003, 01:46 PM I got tired of the old nasty one so I bought a $4 can of black engine paint, sanded her up and went to town. Let me know what you think... Ricochet 08-23-2003, 01:50 PM I would love to show you the pics but every time I try to upload them there's a friggin runtime error and explorer closes... 99civic03 08-23-2003, 01:55 PM Have you tried hosting them somewhere like Imagestation or something? Also, I dunno if youve already tried this, but you can go to automotiveforums.com/upload and upload them there and then use the img code it gives you. Sorry for a useless post if youve already tried those and they didnt work. Ricochet 08-23-2003, 02:21 PM Thanks man, it works that way. Here is a before pic: http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/127067heatshieldbefore_small.jpg and this is after: http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/949391heatshield_small.jpg I'm kind of regretting using gloss, but it still looks better than before. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/711070heatshield2_small.jpg esp 08-23-2003, 03:13 PM Thanks man, it works that way. Just sanded it with fine grit, painted like 4 coats and was done, no primer or clearcoat needed. The engine cost sort of robbed me of being able to buy a header so I'm going the poor man's route for now  esp 08-23-2003, 03:22 PM High temp of course. I bet that destroyed your hands though... I need to sand the lettering on my block and shine em up a bit. Did you do anything besides sanding like adding any chemicals? esp 08-23-2003, 03:43 PM That's really clean looking. I bet that destroyed your hands though... I need to sand the lettering on my block and shine em up a bit. Did you do anything besides sanding like adding any chemicals? nah really didnt destroy my hands i took off the valve cover when i did it. but i did get kinda dirty but its ok. i sanded it with 3 different grits of sand paper, and i put some rubbing compound (3m) on it. then when i was all done i put some others billet/aluminum polish on it and now it is really really shiny Ricochet 08-23-2003, 03:47 PM Pretty sweet... now you need some red plug wires to replace those crusty black ones :) esp 08-23-2003, 03:52 PM Pretty sweet... now you need some red plug wires to replace those crusty black ones :) ya i know gotta get rid of those crusty nasty pos looken ones then i will be good. but not sure which ones to get and what i truely want. red wires for sure. to keep the red/chrome feel goin on in the engine bay. Ricochet 08-23-2003, 04:06 PM momo wires are reliable, but the brand doesn't matter too much at all unless you get some kind of msd ignition. esp 08-23-2003, 04:10 PM momo wires are reliable, but the brand doesn't matter too much at all unless you get some kind of msd ignition. nope now msd ignition for me. Dreem 08-24-2003, 04:59 AM Ricochet, It looks real clean, Did you use some type of clear coat. After driving for a while did the shine dull. I won't mind doing that to my wife's Honda Pilot. I know you use high temp but what brand? DREEM  Ricochet 08-24-2003, 06:47 PM I only used gloss engine paint, no primer or clearcoat. I just painted it the other day so I don't know about it dulling over time... I doubt it will though because it's gloss paint. Drift King 08-24-2003, 08:37 PM I was gonna do the same thing a while back but I was detered when a friend told me the hi-temp paint stinks.
