Sorry to be a dumbass but what do you guys mean by waxing? It it like candle wax? Or is it just polish as a lot of people call polish wax aswell, Simoniz call some of their polishes "Max Wax". Many thanks.

You have Tamiya polish compound (paste) and there is Tamiya Modeling Wax (fluid) used after polishing to give it more shine...

Polish and wax are different. Polish is a very mild abrasive that will make the surface more 'smooth'. The smoother it is, the more shiny it is. The problem is that since it's an abrasive, you have to be careful how much you polish. It's pretty easy to polish through the paint and expose the primer underneith, especially on sharp corners.

Wax is more of a protectant for the paint. It does leave a thin layer of wax on the paint and makes it shine really nice. It also seals everything in sorta like a clear-coat (but not really...)

Getting a good 'polish' is probably the most important part to a nice finish. Wax can really 'top it off', but without a solid polish, the wax doesn't really help much. Many guys here don't even use wax and their paint is simply awesome!!

Good luck!!

Murray
