Hood release on a 1971 Suburbantheshadowpuppy 08-18-2003, 06:31 AM Hello, this is my first time posting on this forum, and I have a rather mundane and stupid question to ask. Does anyone know where the interior hood release is on a '71 Chevy GMC Suburban? I simply cannot locate it. theshadowpuppy 08-22-2003, 07:46 AM For the love of God, doesn't somebody KNOW where the hood release latch is??? blueburbboober 08-25-2003, 11:51 PM sorry noone replied bro, i havent been on this forum too much myself, ive been way to busy. i have a few suggestions. if it isnt in the normal place where almost all hood releases are (left side of the steering column by your feet.) then peek your head under the dash and see if something has been ghetto-rigged. im not very familiar with 70's trucks, but my guess is that it may not even be on the cab, it may be under the front bumper or hidden in the grill somewhere. i know back in the day they didnt have much security for whats under the hood. hope this helps man, and remember, it all else fails, cut the hood off and get another one. -Rob 322bear 01-03-2004, 07:34 PM Lord love a duck, Don't cut your hood off !! I just found this forum or I'd have replied sooner. Supposedly '67-'72 burbs are Essentially (not entirely!) the same. If this is true, you don't have an inside hood release. It's about 2 slots down, just to the right of midline on your grille. If you've short, fat fingers like me, it hurts to use it. That's why I carry a pair of regular pliers with rubber coated handles in my glove box. I use the tip of one handle inserted into the grille slot to push up on the hood release. Be carefull to NOT pry against the grille or you'll bend the grille! Firminator 03-06-2004, 05:14 PM theshadowpuppy did you ever get the hood of that 71 opened? I'd suggest the same thing 322bear did. Many moons ago I had a 73, and if I recall correctly the latch was in the grill, about 2 slots down and to the right of center, just like 322bear said. Once you pop that latch, the hood may open just a little and you might have to look for second (safety) latch between the hood and the grill. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
