Puzzling switch

I have a 2000 Nissan Frontier.

The fan motor switch has 5 settings 0-1-2-3-4.

Between 0 and 1---I can hear the AC compressor turning on and off----and the dash light push button goes on and off----this is normal.

On settings 1-2-and-3 there is no fan at all----but the AC compressor is working.

At setting 4 the fan comes on full blast---and everything seems to work normally at that setting.

The truck was in a fender bender a few months ago and I recently installed a new sound system.

Other than those 3 settings on the fan motor switch----EVERYTHING else seems to be working just fine.

Is this just a bad switch??? Or is something more sinister going on here???

Thanks for any help------this seems very strange to me.

REPLACE THE RESISTOR THAT SITS IN THE HEATER/AC FAN ASSEMBLY, iT IS lOCATED UNDER THE DASH BOX, IT'S HELD BY TWO SCREW, AND THERE IS A CONNECTOR GOING TO IT.(THE ONLY WIRES THAT SHOULD BE VISIBLE GOING TO THE FAN MOTOR. IT IS A $25 PART'S
ENJOY!
