Thor302 08-14-2003, 12:03 AM looks good except for a 350 in a ford :thumbsdow r34boy 08-14-2003, 12:07 AM Originally posted by Thor302 looks good except for a 350 in a ford :thumbsdow :iceslolan :iceslolan tonioseven 08-14-2003, 10:54 AM Mmmm.....cool and different.:sunglasse :sunglasse EMAXX 08-14-2003, 10:56 AM Why did you put a Chevy motor in a Ford? You should have painted it blue. Honoturtle 08-14-2003, 01:14 PM It's a ford guys, the valve covers say "Thunderbird V8" with the V8 simbol that should go on the front grill. EMAXX 08-14-2003, 01:37 PM Originally posted by Honoturtle It's a ford guys, the valve covers say "Thunderbird V8" with the V8 simbol that should go on the front grill. Ok, but still, why would you paint a Ford motor orange? DSM-Mark 08-14-2003, 01:49 PM Originally posted by EMAXX Ok, but still, why would you paint a Ford motor orange? Meh. On old cars, trucks, etc engine conversions are VERY common, very often with Chevy 350s. And the blocks are often colour matched to the body, or another interesting colour. I paint mine whatever colour I feel will look good when you pop the hood, and I am by no means shy towards the idea of an engine swap. Looking Good! :bigthumb: RaceMySS_454 08-14-2003, 03:52 PM Originally posted by EMAXX Ok, but still, why would you paint a Ford motor orange? hes building this model at my house....and the motor and chassie are red but since he takes really bright pics  giantsnyy 08-14-2003, 10:03 PM hes building this model at my house....and the motor and chassie are red but since he takes really bright pics  yea... the engine is a gloss red, but since i had the flash on my camera, it looks orange. And yes, it is a thunderbird v8, not a chevy engine... Fastphil 08-14-2003, 10:42 PM Here's a motor lesson for you guys: Ford motors such as the 302, 351, 460, etc have the distributor at the front of the engine. GM motors such as the 305, 350, 396, 400, 454, etc have the distributor at the rear of the engine. Therefore, this is indeed a Chevy motor, most likely a 350 since they're so common. Never mind the question of why there's a Chevy motor in there, because as DSM-Mark said, swaps are very common, and for all we know the 1:1 Ed Roth F-100 may have had a SBC in it, making this kit true to the original, and therefore correct. Honoturtle 08-15-2003, 01:25 AM Ford motors such as the 302, 351, 460, etc have the distributor at the front of the engine. GM motors such as the 305, 350, 396, 400, 454, etc have the distributor at the rear of the engine. He's right, the distributor is in toward the back of the engine, didn't notice it till now! Anyway, when I build "custom" cars, I too usually paint the block the same color as the engine. ex. my 1969 Mustang GT-500. BTW, looking good! 008 08-15-2003, 11:28 AM Chevies don't have raised manifolds or oil filters on that part of the block. The siamesed center exhaust ports already rule out the Ford. Pontiacs and Chrysler engines had raised intake manifolds, but the oil filter location also rules out the Pontiac. So that leaves us with a Chrysler engine that uses Thunderbird valve covers. You can see by the instruction sheet that he did not use the kit engine, so it's a mix-a-match of parts. But it's a model so who cares? Looks good to me! giantsnyy 08-15-2003, 12:23 PM actually 008, that instruction sheet below it... is for my corvette, which is 98% complete. and thanks for all the positive feedback... i'll definately have more whenever i get those pieces primed (i had to take pieces from one of Racemyss_454's kits, b/c Revell left out a whole tree, and his are prepainted a metallic blue, cant really paint well on that). ~mike 008 08-15-2003, 06:44 PM Are you going to paint it with all those flames just like the real thing? giantsnyy 08-15-2003, 10:15 PM Are you going to paint it with all those flames just like the real thing? nah im not gonna paint the flames, they're decals and yes, im gonna make it look exactly like how its supposed to be Purpura Delujo 08-16-2003, 11:36 AM im gonna make it look exactly like how its supposed to be  That's the way mate! But please size down those pictures! TorinoGT69 08-17-2003, 11:07 AM The engine he is building is a ford motor. It is a 292cu. V-8 t-bird motor. They have the distributor in the rear unlike later fords. They also came painted a redish orange from the factory. I attached a few pics to show you. TorinoGT69 08-17-2003, 11:08 AM here are the pics. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
