does it matter what kind of spark plugs i put on?
if yes, what type is the best? i have a '98 accord.
is it advisable for a beginner like me to try to do my own tune-up?

Oh theirs no problem what so ever with you doing stuff to your own car. when putting new spark plugs in just make sure they're turning easy, you do not want to cross-thread the plugs. As far as what plugs to get, NGK is what they come factory with, I use Bosch Platinums in mine, I was thinking about getting the +4 platinums next time around:iceslolan ...Hopefully you'll get input from others:bigthumb:

I through to garbage set of Bosh Platinum two weeks ago. 30% electhrodes gone after 12K km. Those plugse where recomended by book in canadian Tire Store. In hot days when air ON I hear the engine works harder.
Now NGK V-power installed and I hear the radio only.
Bosh is not for Honda!
You can use G-power (tested in 87 Accord by me) or Platinum as well, but NGK.

There is no reason to use Platinum tipped plugs unless orginally equipt. NGK for Honda's - Spark plugs wont make hardly any difference on a stock engine. If you pushin tons of power then maybe spark plugs will come into effect.

I use Platinum 4's and they've done me well. No complaints here...

I just started using Platinum 4s as well, but I haven't noticed any difference. Actually, my fuel economy hasn't been that good lately...ever since I used those new spark plugs, plus switched to the good gas. Next time I'll go back to regular ones probably.

Actually, you should use the gas rated for your vehicle. Using higher octane gas doesn't mean you're going to get better mileage and in some cases it messes up your engine. I use regular 87 octane here and I get about 400 miles to a tank through regular commute and etc. I tried 93 octane and I didn't see a difference what so ever...

I'll be turbocharging my car hopefully within 2 weeks, so I'm just using the good gas now. I had used it before, and like you said, there isn't supposed to be a difference. But the turbo requires at least 91 I think.
