Neon problems....

My girlfriend's 1995 Neon has started to hesitate when accelerating-jerking pretty good. The oxygen sensor error message came on awhile back, but from what I could gather it wouldn't cause this type of problem. Am I dealing with clogged injectors or a fuel filter or something else? It has gotten bad in a hurry. Thank you!

Without seeing it, its hard to say. But Fuel Injector cleaner is cheap. Throw some in and see what happens. Also, change your oil and oil filter while you're at it.

Actually a bad 02 sensor can cause problems if it is not reading properly or at all. My Neon started hesitating a bit, would almost stall at red lights. The CEL code indicated my fuel system was running lean, and my service writer at the dealer told me that typically a bad O2 sensor causes this, even if I am not getting the code specifically for it.
Check the codes on her Neon and see if you come with anything:

Replace the O2 first. They are known to cause hessitation if not operating right. Also look at the EGR valve to see that is operating right and is not leaking.

When my o2 sensor went, it caused similar problems. Its most likely your o2 sensor...you can test them with an ohmmeter...but its usually the upstream sensor that goes first.

Hi,
Change your fuel filter. Mine was defective since I bought the 96
Neon. It always bucked a little. After changing the fuel filter, my
bucking problem went away.
