theres quite a few things that could go wrong. Teeth can chip on gears and things can wear off making the tranny less precise, you can also tear up synchros etc... MANY things can go wrong in a tranny

if you have an auto and it has tranny probs. First thing I suggest is a fluid change. 2nd is have it looked over real good by a HONEST SHOP, sometimes a lil 20 dollar part can make your tranny act all wierd. Worse case scenario you need a rebuild.

yeah man, transmissions are very complicated. When an ato blows its big money... BUT sometimes little things can go wrong with your tranny that are a overlooked thing and an easy fix. Not all shops are honest, some just want to make money anyway possible. Fluid and filter changes can also help your transmission if you notice it starting to go bad.

I think you've answered your own question...

I had an old RX-7 that would pop itself out of gear under deceleration... I guess i kept pissing it off, the engine and trans would torque a bit, when it did, I went from a hi reving deceleration to idle.

this was due to SEVERELY work synchros in the 2nd and 3rd gear banks.

Did you hear that crunch? Yeah that was me shifting into 2nd..
