I guess i'm here because i am an automotive enthusiast. I'm not your typical mclaren owner. I've met several mclaren owners and they are super cocky. I'm not like that. I still get shocked everyday when i go in my garage and see MY mclaren. I'm a normal guy, only thing is that i make more money in a week than most people make in a year. And for G-Forces, i have gone to the track with MY mclaren, and i still can't bring myself to put it to the max. I've yet to put it into sixth gear. I guess i'm still scared of messing it up.

JE123

I would be scared too. I wouldn't take a chance unless I was on a track. If you don't mind me asking, how much was it?

Do you have enough room for another co-owner at that dealership?:)

Oh and by the way, I love the pics. And welcome to AF.

Well Hermunn123, I am founder and CEO of Metoyer Computer Consulting and the co-owner of fox valley motor cars. For JE123, the cost was 1.3 million but i didn't really pay that, because i am co-owner i have the privelage of any car on the lot that I want. The last car i had was a 99 lamborghini diablo vt Alpine Edition. That was probably the sweetest car that I've ever owned. It was a chick magnet. I think that i just might hold onto the mclaren due to the fact that it is a collector's dream and if i hold it for a while the value of the car will appreciate and i could make a huge profit. The mclaren is also a huge chick magnet but i have a girlfriend so it does me no good!!!!

hey guys sorry i haven't posted in a few days. i was at merger meeting in seatle. I was wondering if there is a way to get rid of my membership status. I wish to withdraw because i have received several harassing emails due to me posting pics of my car. I received 15 emails since i've been gone. people are asking me to buy them cars, they are calling me a fucking liar, they are asking for my adress so they can come and see if i really own a mclaren. I thought that this was a good forum but it is full of ignorant kids. Just to let you guys know, i do really own a mclaren and would have loved to share my experiences with the lot of you, but you forced me to leave. again sorry and i hope you guys are a little guilty.

If you go to Edit Profile Options (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/member.php?s=&action=editoptions) you can hide your email address from other members. That should stop the emails. If they were sent through AF, then they were sent blind, and the senders didn't get to see the address. You can also disable the private messaging feature and there's an "Ignore List" so you can block posts by other users you don't like.

You have to understand people are going to naturally skeptical about this sort of thing. :( You're driving the most exclusive car in the world (except of course the G-forces tuned G20. Only one in the world :))

I personally have a hard time believing that anyone with the means to own such a car would waste his time on this fourm. I can't see what he'd have in common with the average enthusiest. Where we can only dream of driving such a car it's no biggie to you. The damn thing is in your garage. :) At least you're taking it too the track and driving it.

I feel bad that there are immature people out there sending you that crap. I'm sure you worked hard you get your F1, not to mention waited a damn long time for it. ;) You seem like a cool person but I've been on the net for a long time and met a lot of people that spin tall tales. I'm not saying you're full of crap but to most people on the net it seems far fetched. You're fighting an uphill battle.

As for taking your F1 to the max, have you looked into some performance driving schools? Assuming you have the time.

That sucks man, I hate when people ruin a good thing for someone. Well good luck with the F1. 2 quick questions between the GT, LM, are the only things different in the aerodynamics, or are there interior and power differences? I would have to say that I actually believed you. Maybe one day it will actually happen. At least you get to see those cars. There aren't any dealerships around here with cars like that. I am suppost to be going to Chicago for a school field trip sometime in either April or May. Maybe I will see my first Ferrari or Lamborghini, or heck even a McLaren. You just never know.

I also want to become a mechanical engineer. I am a senior in high school and am thinking about going to Tennesse Tech.

I know the F1 is a 1+2 seating configuration with the driver's seat and controls in the middle, but I'm curious what kinda of lateral support and road perception this location gives to the driver. Also, with people in the car, is it very difficult to see other cars on the road/blind spot???

Chris
12-05-2001, 01:52 PM
The seat is a very supportive throne. And when driving alone, it is the optimal driving position, as you can easily judge where the car is.

And you dont buy an F1 for visibility!

Importing the McLaren is no easy, nor cheap task, but it can be done. There are currently 9 McLarens here in the US. There are others that are currently on the request list for Show & Display approval. The process of Show & Display approval is quite involving as well. It entails a DOT exemption, but does not provide an EPA exemption. As a result, all McLarens that come into the US must pass that model year EPA testing. As some may know, 1996 was the advent of the OBDii system in all domestic or imported cars. That system is manditory. The McLaren, the most advanced roadcar yet, does not have the OBDii system specifically. Despite the fact that the car monitors such parameters that would make any normal automechanic's head swim and that (as previously pointed out by other replies) the car has the capability to communicate with the McLaren factory via a connected phone line and an onboard modem. This system allows McLaren to download the on board telemetry system to get a proper idea as to the car's operating vitals.

Suffice to say, the McLaren far outperforms any OBDii system, but it cannot be read by the local auto shop with the standard OBDii plug as found under the dash of all other cars here in the US, 1996 and newer. All that said to simply point out, that currently only 1994 and 1995 McLarens are allowed for importation. That exclusion of 1996 and newer McLarens is a short lived problem as someone will develop a "piggy-back" system that will translate the onboard data acquisition information into the required OBDii format.

The total cost to import a McLaren (1994-95) is about $100,000. The 1996-newer cost is not available yet, as the system has not yet been approved by the EPA, but I expect it will run around $120,000 (maybe slightly higher). The process takes about 2 months. I have brought a car in through the whole process in about a week and a half, but that is not cheap. As far as a waiting list, the only wait is finding the right car for the owner. There are only a few cars out there that are ever for sale at one time.

As required by DOT, the two passenger seats must be removed and are not approved for reinstallation. Most owners put them back in anyway as would I.

The Show & Display is for the owner of the car only, not for dealers that want to bring the cars in for resale. If any car that is already here is resold upon importing, the new owner must refile for Show & Display. There is no need for the import cost as it already passes, but it must be retested, which has some cost associated with it, (about $30,000). It is quite expensive to live in the fast lane.

...Just a little information for all the McLaren enthusiasts out there. That should answer some of the questions as of late regarding bringing a McLaren into the US.

The McLaren that 2cooljay posted pics of is no longer at the dealership. The actual owner of the car had it here on a temporary Visa. The owner also had not filed for Show & Display approval. It was not here legally for any long term stay. It is originally a 1996 roadcar. At the time he brought in the car, there was no conversion possible for it to pass the EPA smog requirements. There still is no approved way to convert a 1996 or newer car, but it is coming.

Once the EPA learned that the car was here, the owner was directed to have the car leave the country. Before that could happen, customs took possession of the car there in the Chicago area. That was several months ago. Since that time, it was shipped back to England where the current owner is from. The car is still for sale, I believe. The price is too high for the value. $1.3M without the conversion cost for the US market.

The car was painted from its original color, it also received the high-downforce kit and LM-like wheels. The engine has received the upgrade for added power as well. Despite all the upgrades and mods, the car was not kept up to par with its service requirements. It was in bad need of service. The fuel tanks are from Formula 1, they are a rubber bladder. It is required to be replaced every 5 years as outlined by the McLaren factory. Not cheap, but necessary.

There are a few cars around the country that can be viewed, some more accessible than others. There is one in the Boston area that is always on display in the Herb Chambers auto dealership. There is one in Texas, but is not on public display, although the owner drives it quite regularly. Others are in Florida, California, and other states.

The McLaren is one of my favorites and having been involved in the exotic car market for many years, my experience includes several McLarens and many others. I specialize in importing such exclusive cars as the McLaren that were not originally made to comply with all the US regulations. 7 cars were imported about 3 years ago by a company called AmeriSpec. They were able to get the cars to comply through a loophole in the import laws. That effort has since been terminated, but with the advent of the Show & Display Law, the car is once again opened up for interested buyers.

As for the Florida cars, I am not aware of any that are publicly available for viewing. They are in the hands of a couple very proud owners that don't like to have their car in the public eye very much. I currently manage the public interest of a couple McLarens and they will both be featured in an upcoming movie that is soon to begin filming. I can't mention the project or the exact time it will be in theaters, but I will post it here when I am given permission.

I can't say that I am a Tuscan fan, but for the sake of a car in a movie with the car having a considerabl role, I did see it. Didn't care for the movie much, but the car received some very good screen time. Definitely something you don't see every day, especially here in North America. I have only seen a few in person and none in the US or Canada.

A car like the McLaren is a car of such stature that it commands much more than a secondary role. It cannot simply be parked at the side during a ranging scene with the main characters. It has to be written into the script as a character itself. It is too commanding of a car considering its price and exclusivity to simply pass over.

I can say that the car will have a major role in the movie and it will get some very serious screen time. The completion date for the project is many months down the road, but at least it is a teaser for those of you that love the car, myself included.

Marita, Actually the McLaren is legal for sale in CA. It must pass the EPA regulations for California for the year of car that it is, but I have sold two cars for owners here in California. If you are a local to LA, you may have seen the car at Newport Motorsports for quite a long time. It was labeled specifically NOT FOR SALE in CA. That is because it was not fully converted for use in California. It did have the necessary testing completed for use in the US, but not in California. That can always be done, but is an additional cost to the owner. There are other cars that have already been done. In fact, I know of one for sale, but it isn't cheap.

Pikachoo, as for seating, the driver's seat is remarkably comforable. It fits like a glove. As you may know from McLaren history, the driver's seat was specifically fitted to the new owner of the car at the factory when new. That seat usually remains with the car unchanged, but the factory still offers the service to refit the seat to the new owner. It isn't cheap. But then again, nothing at the factory is cheap.

Having seen so many of the McLarens, I have found that it is most certainly my favorite. I like many cars, but the McLaren is something different altogether.

Snowboarder, McLaren hp is rated at 627hp for a stock F1, the LM was the highest stock trim horsepower rating at 668. However, as one would expect, there is always somebody that HAS to have more. I have heard of, but have not seen, a car with over 800hp naturally aspirated (ie: no turbos). From what I know of the car and the engine, the 800hp is not that unreasonable and isn't too expensive to achieve. Personally, I would be inclined to keep the car as it was, unless I was able to acquire a GTR. Then I would not feel as bad about modifying the car. It is currently quite difficult to get a GTR in the country. They can only be brought in under a temporary 1-year racing Visa, then the car must be deported.

Without saying as much, there are ways to get what you want though. :)

I know the guys at Symbolic as well. I only deal with two of the salesmen there. The rest I don't care for much. They have never had a McLaren at their facility. They do still usually have some nice stuff though.

Snowboarder... as you have no doubt been able to follow that I have been quite heavy into the exotics for quite some time. Through the years, I have bought and sold quite a few cars. The Lamborghinis and Ferraris are at the top of my list for cars sold. I do not personally buy every car I sell. Far from it in fact. Most of the cars I sell, I never see. They are inspected at the location of the car and the condition of the car is certified and the contract is based on that inspection. If the car doesn't add up, the deal will not go through.

For brief periods of time, I have owned Lamborghinis and various Ferraris. I do not currently own a Lamborghini or a Ferrari. They have been sold for a return on my investment. I am always looking for additional cars at the right money. But I usually don't buy a car just to have. If I can't buy the car to make at least some money, it isn't worth it, not that I must always think about money, but simply making good business decisions. At every effort possible, I try to always make good investments. Cars are my form of investment. It is a "stock market" so to speak.

I am currently looking for a 1994 Lamborghini Diablo 30th Anniversary Special Edition in Anniversary Purple. I have been offered several cars, but didn't feel that the money on the car was right. When I find one at the right money, I would like to keep that car. I have driven so many different cars, that I find it very enjoyable to experience them all. I have also learned to not grow too attached to any car. Enjoy them while you have them, sell it for something new and enjoy it.

By no means am I infinitely wealthy. I am only stepping up to bigger things.

KBSLACKER: I appreciate you taking the time to research and expose the imposter. I am affiliated with Fox Valley Motorcars, but I won't say how. This is my first time here, and i'm sure it won't be my last. I like being places where there are other auto enthusiasts like myself.

If you should need further proof, here is a shot I took of the brake and clutch pedal in that very car (we weren't driving at the time, duh).

shot is here: http://www.foxvalleymotorcars.com/proof.jpg

Welcome to AF, hope you enjoy a lengthy stay here. feel free to post more awesome pics!

XOTech, you're probably sick of me asking, but would you mind telling us what kind of Ferrari's you've owned, and maybe your Lambos for the other kids.

Welcome to AF BuyALambo. This is a great place for people like me to ask questions and get educated answers. The forums are quite addicting.

Thanks for the pic. It will go into my collection of McLaren pics.:)

snowboarder - Seems like I posted this somewhere on another thread, but I don't remember where. Nevertheless. My exotic ownership has thus been limited to a Lamborghini Diablo (an early car), a Lamborghini Diablo Roadster, a Ferrari 308 GTB, and a Ferrari 355 Spider.

Most of those cars were owned strictly for a brief moment and were resold. Currently, as I have mentioned elsewhere, I do not own any Ferraris or Lamborghinis.

I am currently reviewing for purchase a '91 Diablo and an '89 Countach Anniversary. We will see how things go. Sometime in this year, I would like to buy a 1993 Diablo 30th Anniversary Special Edition. It has always been one of my all time favorites. It will be the anniversary purple as well.

I guess this thread is finally dead. Hey that rhymes. It was an awesome thread. Lots of insight and humor. A lot of thanks to XOTech, you are the man when it comes to exotics. You give real answers to our questions and I think we all appreciate it.

2cooljay, I must admit this has been quite an interesting thread. It was this thread that initially interested me in this forum. I am glad that you have not disappeared as a result of all the recoil from your initial claims. At a minimum, you provided pictures of a car few would have seen otherwise. As a side note, the car that you pictured that was originally at Fox Valley is still in customs seizure.

Thank you for the comment as to my posts. I try not to be too stuffy with responses, but what I know, I am happy to share. If I don't know the answer to something, I usually know the people that can tell me. If nothing else, I can ask of my friends at the McLaren factory.

Reading this thread makes me ask myself: Is there really 4 real life owners of Lamborghini Diablos in the Lambo forums?
