Greetings!

Well, its time for a new car again. At 50K miles the Taurus is falling apart, can barely get on the highway, and has the power of an '83 Blazer.

Anyhoo, I have no idea what to buy now. I've got about 6K cash to work with. What I'm looking for is a somewhat new car (ie. no more 80's or early 90's stuff) that has good power and preformance. When I hit the gas I want a car that moves like a bat out of you know where. Something with a nice balance of good torque and horsepower. I also prefer sedans and the like but I'm willing to be flexable.

I also don't want a Ford. Honestly, I'm not too hot on American cars in general since every one I've owned ends up falling apart at about the 70K mile mark. After this Taurus and my my previous T-Bird I'm more then a little sick of Fords.

Anyhoo, any suggestions?

6K, fairly new and brisk performance.... Thats not much of a budget for a newer car, but perhaps a mid 90s Prelude might be worth looking into.

I happen to live in Denver and, ever since a bunch of crappy car racing movies came out (you know what they are) I can't even get a late 80's Civic for under three grand. My parents just sold their 1989 Civic with 200K miles on it for nearly $3500 to some 17 year old kid. Auto auctions are even worse. Hondas and Nissans have ungodly resale value in this city so maybe you can suggst something else?

Oh, one more thing. As of today I could get a 1999 Saab 9-3 with 50K miles on it for about $7500. Haven't driven it yet but it looks brand new. The main concern I have is that I drive in a lot of heavy highway traffic where going under 85 miles per hour and having slow acceleration will get you rear ended. Do you think the Saab would be a good buy?

like Yogs said, 6k for a newer car with some juice, not to likely. and a chevy is no good for you either? hmmi dont really get it. you say you cant afford a honda or something like that because of the price increase after hollywood coming out with the fast and the furious. so my suggestion is a cavalier, yes they arent rockets, but you can get a newer one for a low price. you dont need to be that fast. and if you do get rear ended, try to get it really bad, then you can get more from insurance than your car is worth

I took a look at a 96 Caprice today and was rather impressed. Generally, I haven't been too fond of Chevys since most of what I had been dealing with before was from the 80's. I've seen some things have changed.

Overall, if I was to look for a 90's Chevy what what you suggest would be some good choices? I can't test drive them all and it seems that they're fairly affordable, easy to find used and most have reasonable milage here around town.

And generally, how are they now for reliability?
