my guess is that people have no clue how to use the clutch with a high power AWD vehicle.....

you have to remember hard launches are much harder on the clutch on a AWD car than on a FWD or RWD......and most people are bad drivers.....as long as you stay away from drag racing too much you'll be ok.....

Thanks for your reply , i have only owned one automatic tranny so i hope experence (or lack of)is the problem. a poll of i think about 145 people on evolutionm.net showed that about 67 percent or so , think that mitsubishi"screwed the pooch"with the new evo 8's clutch system.
this could be a majority of younge driver though.

I have 5,000 miles on my Evo with about 2 autocrosses a month and so far I haven't had any clutch issues. I had one start at 4500 RPMs (man that was nice) but I haven't done it since. Keep the RPMs low when starting and you should be fine.

i bought the car more for its handling capabilities and AWD. some of the guys having problems admit that they are abusing the clutch , most say that they are not abusing it and are just daily driving.

Any AWD turbo car u should buy a twin plate clutch straight away if u plan to drive it in any way ur grandmother wouldnt.

The clutch is a piece of crap. I own an Evo VIII and my clutch went out after 7k miles. I did not race or drive it hard. It was daily drive use. There was no warning, no clues to it failing. It was working fine then out of nowhere it just stopped. It would go into all 5 gears but no response at all from the car. The company said I "abused it". Bullshit. I also own a 1972 Charger. THAT i abuse the hell out of. So my question is wtf would make a clutch go out after 7k miles under NORMAL driving conditions? Answer that for me would ya?

I totally agree with Neutrino. Evos are known for weak clutches. A bunch of us here own Evos from Evo IV, V, VI & VII and all experience clutch failure as they launched the car allot. The clutch would just die on u anywhere from 5k to 10k. However, some of the guys launched their cars only a couple of times and have about 25k milage on it. AWD cars with torque of an evo just burns those clutches. What I personally do is race rolling starts and have no problems. I have 15k n still running strong.
