In that order...what do you recommend (not accounting for taste, just specs and low $)? This is for an S14 and 17" is the desired size, preferably 8" wide but 7.5" may do.

I dont think that combination goes together... Maybe 2 out of 3 you mentioned, but not all 3... For example Strong and Cheap thats a no..no Light and cheap yes, you could find plenty for example Konig Helium, 5Zigen's, and plenty of other cheap brands. I have never seen any cheap brands carry wheels wider than 7"

get good runflat tires with cheap rims, or used nice brand rims with ok tires.

i recommend getting some nice used rims that havent been abused, like thalegend said you can't get all three, just 2/3, make your choice of what you dont want

btw, i have adr concept pro's gunmetal from www.groupbuycenter.com. they are 7", you don't need any more unless you are going just for show or for extreme power. $400/shipped.

Make sure the rims haven't been bent, and that there is no obvious cracking too. But there are places that will re-surface rims, so if you find some that are a little scratched, getting them re-surfaced brings them back to looking like new.

Tirerack sucks for wheels. All they list are the few major brands that are an exact fit and sell enough volume to make money. That's why I'm posting here looking for other recommendations. Most of the wheels that meet my criteria are $1500 or more for a set of 4. Add the tires and suddenly a new set of wheels costs me over $2000. That's just too much money (1/3 the cost of the car), so I'm looking for something a little more reasonable.

As for only getting 2 out of 3...that's why I listed the criteria in that order. Maybe I'm being optimistic, but there's always something that fits the bill, it's just a matter of finding it. If I could find a used set of wheels that was in good shape that might do the trick. Where (besides ebay) is a good place to look? Any other recommendations for wheels (brands)? I am not interested in 7", that's just too small, and I think 8.5-9 is overkill, that's why I said 7.5-8. I think a nice set of 8" would be just right.

5Zigen has a 17 wheel called the FN-01 C (its a cast version of their racing Rim) that weighs 7.1kg and it only costs 215 for the size you mentioned (17x8) its light and cheap but i dont know about strength... at least you can afford to replace it.

There are some cast brands that have proven very sturdy for smooth-pavement racing (no off-road and no pot-holes), as well as being cheap and relatively lightweight:

Rota
Kosei
Buddy Club
Advan

Get some volk gram lights. they aren't as pricey as say... volk te37's, but they could still be considered expensive. Expect to pay around $300 or so for 8 inch wide gram lights.

I'd love to get some Gram Lights, they are sweet, but they are also out of my price range. I'm probably going to end up getting the FN01R-Cs.
