turbo on a b18c5

2001type r

So i recently picked up a 2001 integra type r. I have already slapped on a lot of the basic bolt ons such as intake, header, exhaust. I also have put on AEM pullies, AEM adjustable cam gears, and dc short throw shifter. I have heard that putting a turbo on a type r requires a lot more engine preperation than on other integras. Is putting a turbo on this car stupid? What all will i need to change as far as engine internals goes to make sure that i have a reliable turbo-charged vehicle. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

:iagree: Instead of using FI to force air into your C5 get some NA mods to help it breathe better on it's own.

ive seen a 500hp turbocharged type r before. was sick as hell but not my style. cost A LOT money to get it there though. its possible but just not smart. you want turbo? buy an ls motor.

um....how about selling the b18c5 on ebay and then buying a b20 complete swap for like $900 and then turboing that. he could probably make enough selling that engine for a b20, turbo kit, and installation if not more.

The Type R was not built for turbo no matter how you look at it. Save the Type R motors for NA tuners.

i guess i am just ignorant on the subject of NA engines...but if i were to beef up my b18c5 and keep it all motor...would i still be faster than other integras with turbo's on them...such as a ls with a turbo...or gsr with a turbo....i am just trying to figure out if i will still be able to beat them if i kept it all motor....also...what all would i need to change inside the engine...thanks again

with a built b18c5 and loss of some weight you could definitely keep up with some mildly modified turbo tegs. you already have a high 14 second car. if you change the cams, get some head work done, change the pistons, get some engine management, fuel upgrades, and som ignition, you could have a 13 second car if not 12. but you would definitely have a hard time keeping it street legal and also if you get race cams it will idle like crap and wont be the best thing as a daily driver.
